🐾 A Hunt History Lesson: Our Hounds and the Titanic

In 1912, Jimmy Clinch Smith traveled to England to acquire hounds for The Smithtown Hunt, hoping to improve the pack. He booked his return trip on the RMS Titanic.

When the ship began to sink, Smith was last seen heading down to the hold — trying to free his hounds. He did not survive.

A piece of our hunt’s history, tied forever to one of the great tragedies of the sea. 🐕🦺⚓

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to ride to hounds? The Smithtown Hunt’s Future of Foxhunting Junior Scholarship is a great way for young riders under 18 to give it a try!

The Smithtown Hunt is Long Island’s only foxhunting organization. We’re a drag hunt, meaning hounds follow a pre-laid scent (no live game involved), and we’re committed to preserving trails for equestrian use.

Scholarship recipients get to learn about hunting, build their horsemanship, and experience the Smithtown Hunt community alongside experienced members.

If you’ve been curious about foxhunting, this is your chance! 🐎

Exciting news: Kelly McCoy will be joining us Breeze Hill Farm and Preserve on 9/13 to capture gorgeous orchard and bluff photos!

Your $135 tax-deductible donation includes:
- up to 3 hours of riding through the farm at your own pace
- a peck of apples to take home
- a glass of special horse-themed wine
- the opportunity for beautiful photos!
- more surprises to come

Yes, you will need to bring your own horse, but some lease horses will be available. There is ample trailer parking.

You’re invited to join us for a beautiful orchard ride on September 13th! Breeze Hill Farm and Preserve has graciously opened their property to riders for the first time ever. Ride through their orchard out to the bluff overlooking Long Island Sound.

Your entry donation includes a peck of apples and a glass of sparkling wine. (We may have a few other surprises coming - stay tuned!)
