Did you know surf/ocean therapy is happening in Japan? A published study by Satoko Tsuda, titled Surf Therapy for Whole Person Health in Children and Youth: A Scoping Review of Multidimensional Outcomes and Implications for Therapeutic Recreation, will be presented at this year’s global online conference.

The session shares results from a 2026 peer-reviewed pilot study that found this community-embedded model points toward a potential shift in Japan’s care landscape, moving toward support that is more inclusive, relational, preventive, and nature-based.

Co- Presented by Satoko Tsuda and Yasuhiro Shibata ~ Arigatō

ISTO was created to connect surf therapy practitioners and programs around the world, so people do not have to work alone.

To every surf/ocean therapy founder, practitioner, volunteer, instructor, and advocate out there. The ones showing up at the beach before sunrise, wading into the cold water, holding boards steady, celebrating every wobbly first stand-up. Thank you.
You do the real work. The hard, wet, sandy, joyful work.

ISTO was founded on a simple belief: together, we’re stronger. As a community. As a sector. As people. Thank you for being the proof. 🩵

Every breath you take, every sip of water trace it back, and you’ll find the ocean at the source. It regulates our climate, generates our oxygen, and anchors every food web that keeps life on Earth from unraveling.

When the ocean suffers, we suffer. Protect it like your life depends on it.

Because it does!

Happy World Oceans Day. 🩵💙
