Mission K9 Rescue is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to helping reunite military working dogs with their handlers. When a reunion isn’t possible, we step in to help these incredible dogs find loving forever homes. We currently have 49 because our 50th resident, Leo, just found his forever home.

This is a HUGE deal for Mission K9 Rescue, and it’s all because of YOU.

When you like, comment, and share our pictures and videos, you are telling social media algorithms that our posts are WORTH seeing.

Here’s an example:

We post a picture of a senior military dog with no one to adopt him, desperately looking for a forever home. Even if you can’t donate or adopt, you can still help.

By liking, commenting, and sharing that post, you are telling Facebook that this is something people want to see. And when Facebook sees that people are engaging, it shows the post to even MORE people.

And that matters.

In the last month alone, 100,000 brand-new people hit the “Follow” button on our page. That means 100,000 more people who could see a dog looking for a home. 100,000 more people who could share a post. 100,000 more people who might one day be the person who says, “That’s my dog.”

We found a forever home for Leo within MINUTES. That’s right, MINUTES, of posting him.

Did we post at the right time and the algorithms were in our favor?

Did this resonate with our audience more than our usual posts do?

We aren’t sure, but we hope our other 49 pups can get this much attention, because we have so many more who have waited far too long for their forever home.

After six months of staying with us while her handler was on deployment, on October 1, 2015, she went back home where she belongs.

🚨 URGENT: LEO HAS WAITED LONG ENOUGH.

Leo is 13 years old. He is the oldest dog from Kuwait, and he is still waiting for a home.

This sweet boy should NOT be spending another day waiting for someone to choose him.

Leo has a wonderfully youthful spirit. He loves to run, explore, play fetch and make friends with everyone he meets.

🐾 He is friendly with dogs, loves people, and once he has had his fun, he is more than happy to come inside for a good nap.

Our co-founder Kristen says it best:
“Leo is the sweetest boy. He is the oldest one from Kuwait and we really want him in a home as quickly as possible. He deserves a home.”

He absolutely does.

Leo is ready.

He just needs someone to say YES.

🚨 A few times per year, we dread posts like this because it sounds like we’re begging… but we are.

Adoption applications have increased, and we are so grateful for that, but donations have decreased.

Registration is now open for the 8th Annual Retired Military Dogs Golf Tournament on November 23 at Coto de Caza Golf Course in Orange County, California.

For 8 years, Mike Pagano and Teemu Selanne have selflessly dedicated their time to making this tournament a success!

Mission K9 Rescue cares for retired Military and Contract Working Dogs, Border Patrol Canines, and Law Enforcement K9s. Many arrive needing extensive veterinary care, rehabilitation, behavioral support, and time to adjust to life after service. More dogs are waiting for their chance to enter our program.

Join us for a great day of golf, followed by an exciting live K9 demonstration and the opportunity to meet some of these incredible dogs. Register to play, become a sponsor, donate an auction item, make a direct contribution, or participate in the online silent auction.

The tournament sells out every year, so register early. One hundred percent of net proceeds will benefit Mission K9 Rescue and Warrior Dog Foundation.

The life of a working dog… is a hard one.

They are trained to be ON.

So after years of service, whether with the military overseas or locally, when one of their handlers can’t adopt them for various reasons, where do they go?

💭 That’s a great question… nowhere.

Hence why Mission K9 Rescue was created.

With 50 retirees in our care, we do everything we can to provide a place of respite until they find the perfect forever home.
