Breaking Bread is a free meal program that has been going strong since January 2012. We provide a hot lunch and distribute groceries the third Saturday of every month to those in need in our community. Since we began in 2012, we have provided over one million meals to those in need in the Hopkins County area! We also serve as a food distributor to 15 local food banks and churches. Unlike most othe
r resource outlets, there are no requirements to receive our services. Anyone who feels they are in need is welcome to come and be served. The only questions asked are: How many live in the household, and how many are under the age of 18. This helps us prepare the grocery bags. We have monthly sponsors - individuals, churches, businesses - that donate financially. These monies go towards purchasing the groceries. Our hot meals are sponsored and/or co-sponsored by local churches and businesses. Our events are held at the old Food Town building – 275 West Center Street in Madisonville. This has been our new location since October 2016. Anyone is more than welcome to come and volunteer on the third Saturday of every month. Volunteer sign in begins at 10 am. To volunteer, all you have to do is show up the day of and sign in. If you are interested in bringing a group of 10 or more, we ask that you contact us in advance so we can schedule your group for a certain month to come. Anyone 12 and under must be accompanied by a responsible adult. If you are interested in donating food items, this is the list of food we give away to our guests every month. Cereal
Oatmeal
Dried Beans
Boxed Potatoes
Saltine Crackers
Mac-N-Cheese
Stuffing Mix
Spaghetti
Spaghetti Sauce
Soups
Peanut Butter
Canned Veggies: Corn, Green Beans, Peas
Ramen Noodles
Our guests also receive Tyson product every month thanks to generous donations by Tyson Foods. While we are so grateful for the many volunteers who organize or participate in food drives, the truth is that monetary contributions benefit us the most. We can leverage donations to maximum effect by using our buying power to purchase in bulk the items that are most needed. In other words, a donation of $1.00 can be multiplied into much more food than a donated can of food worth $1.00. All financial donations can be made payable to: Breaking Bread Ministries, Inc and mailed to P O Box 1821 Madisonville, KY 42431. You can find more info regarding how you can help donate through Kroger here on our FB page. All help is greatly appreciated and you will not regret being a blessing to those in our community. You yourself will be blessed! If you are interested in volunteering, sponsoring/co-sponsoring a hot meal, or donating for our events/building fund, please send us a private message here on Facebook or email us at [email protected].
