One Soldier. Twelve Lives Saved.

During World War II, Army Pvt. Elden Harvey Johnson made the ultimate sacrifice near Valmontone, Italy. Facing overwhelming enemy fire, he deliberately exposed himself to draw the enemy’s attention, allowing the rest of his patrol to escape. Even after being mortally wounded, Johnson continued fighting until his final moments.

For his courage, Johnson was awarded the Medal of Honor and secured his place among America’s greatest heroes.
