MEET OUR BOARD: Evelyn Marshall-King, MSN-NE, ADN, RN

We’re excited to introduce Evelyn Marshall-King, a newer Director-at-Large on the Wisconsin Center for Nursing (WCN) Board of Directors!

Evelyn is a nursing leader, educator, and advocate whose career reflects a deep commitment to strengthening healthcare, advancing nursing education, and developing the next generation of nurses.

Currently serving as Director of Nursing at St. Camillus in Wauwatosa, Evelyn brings a wealth of experience across bedside care, behavioral health, correctional health, senior living, and nursing leadership. Throughout her career, she has focused on developing nursing staff, improving systems, and promoting safe, compassionate, patient- and resident-centered care.

🎓 In 2025, Evelyn earned her Master of Science in Nursing through Carroll University’s RN-to-MSN Nurse Educator program. She is now pursuing an MBA in Healthcare Administration, continuing her commitment to lifelong learning and professional growth.

Her dedication extends beyond her leadership roles. Evelyn has developed educational programming for adolescents in recovery, contributed articles to Minority Nurse, mentored nursing students and early-career professionals, and served on nursing education and professional committees. Her own journey from certified nursing assistant to nursing leader reflects the power of perseverance, education, and compassionate leadership.

Congratulations to Evelyn on receiving Carroll University’s 2026 Distinguished Alumni Award for Professional Achievement from the College of Health Sciences!

We are proud to welcome Evelyn to the WCN Board of Directors and look forward to the experience, insight, and passion she brings to our shared mission of strengthening Wisconsin’s nursing workforce through research, collaboration, and advocacy.

Great job, Cheryl! It’s wonderful to see Wisconsin leaders coming together to improve cancer prevention and support cancer survivors, especially in our rural communities. Thank you for the important work you do to strengthen the health of Wisconsin residents!

Last week Cheryl DeVault, Senior Manager of Chronic Disease and Preventive Services, and Kami Doan, RN, of Grant Regional Health Center, joined Eileen Stevens, President of Greater Richland Area Cancer Elimination (GRACE), to present at the Wisconsin Cancer Collaborative Summit on a Rural Health Initiatives Panel.

The presentation highlighted the important work happening across rural Wisconsin to improve cancer outcomes, including:

🟦 Improving Colorectal Cancer Screening: Grant Regional Health Center shared its efforts to increase colorectal cancer screening and promote early detection.

🟦 Supporting Cancer Survivors: GRACE highlighted its work supporting cancer survivors and the importance of strong community partnerships.

🟦 Strengthening Rural Health Initiatives: Cheryl provided an overview of the Rural Health

🟦 Transformation Program grants and highlighted the work of the Rural Wisconsin Health Cooperative (RWHC) Cancer Prevention Taskforce

Thank you to the Wisconsin Cancer Collaborative for bringing partners together to share ideas and advance cancer prevention efforts across Wisconsin!

Celebrating Nurses Making a Difference!

Congratulations to WCN Board Vice President, Katie Gillespie Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Nursing on receiving an award recognizing dedicated community service for her work with Madison Street Medicine!

Katie accepted the award on behalf of Madison Street Medicine during the Recovery Alignment Tour hosted by Helios Heuristic.

Madison Street Medicine connects healthcare with essential social services and housing support, recognizing an important truth: Housing is healthcare.

Thank you to Katie and the Madison Street Medicine team for their commitment to meeting people where they are and helping address the healthcare and social needs of individuals in the community.

Congratulations to the 2026 Recipients of The Karlene Kerfoot Nursing Leadership in Technology Education Grant! Learn more about this grant and read about how the recipients will be utilizing the granted funds on the Daisy Foundation webpage.

This grant is in partnership with symplr and the American Organization for Nursing Leadership. The 2027 application will open June 1st.
