80 years ago, on May 11, 1946, the first CARE Packages full of surplus US Army rations arrived in the French port city of Le Havre, immediately impacting the lives of citizens who had for years seen their food supply dwindle as German and Allied forces fought across the country. This pit is all that remains of Boston Corbett's Dugout home and farmstead near Concordia, Kansas. Thomas P. "Boston" Corbett was a sergeant in the Union Army who disobeyed orders that John Wilkes Booth should be captured alive and shot and killed Booth on April 26, 1865.
