Our newest tourism billboard is officially up on I-70, inviting travelers to visit Lyons, Kansas, home of the World’s Largest Salt Shaker!

But this isn’t just a giant salt shaker. 🧂

It tells the story of a community built around salt. Lyons has been connected to salt mining since 1887, and today, Compass Minerals and Lyons Salt continue that legacy right here in Rice County.

So when you see the billboard, take the exit, come see the shaker, learn the story, grab a bite, explore downtown Lyons and discover what makes Rice County worth the stop.

We were excited to welcome South Central Kansas Tourism to Lyons today for the August regional meeting! ❤️

Each month, South Central Kansas Tourism holds its meeting in a different community across the region, and we were thrilled to have the opportunity to be this month’s host and show off a little bit of what Rice County has to offer.

We started with our regular business meeting before heading out into the community for lunch at Brew 56. Not only did everyone get to enjoy a delicious meal, but we loved getting participants out of the meeting room and actually experiencing downtown Lyons!

After lunch, we made our way around the square to visit a few of our local shops and businesses. It was exciting to introduce tourism representatives from across South Central Kansas to some of the people, places and small businesses that make Lyons special.

And of course, we couldn’t end the day without a stop at the World’s Largest Salt Shaker! 🧂📸 Everyone got to see one of Rice County’s newest tourism attractions, learn a little more about the story behind it, and take some fun photos along the way.

There’s something special about getting people out into our communities instead of just talking about them in a meeting room. We’re proud to show off Lyons and Rice County, and even more excited to keep finding new ways to put our communities on the map! 🌾❤️
