Our satellite site, Northeast Kingdom Summer Program, will serve school-aged children ages five to 12 years. At NEKPC we believe that early childhood is a vital period of a child’s life during which the greatest brain development and growth occurs. t which provides developmentally appropriate experiences designed to stimulate these areas of growth. Early childhood is a time for play, fun, discovery, adventure, imagination and therefore we believe that learning begins with play. Daily lesson plans are introduced through structured themes with the children’s interest in mind. Through play children learn about themselves, others, and the world around them. The amount of teacher guidance varies with each activity, as it is our belief that a good program offers both directed and non-directed experiences, encouraging children to plan and think about their actions. Children develop and learn on an individual basis. Working with children in small groups enables them to receive the personalized attention they need to excel. Also, it allows our teachers the opportunity to observe and meet the individual needs of each child. Our program offers each child the individual care, attention, nurturing, and love which is necessary for healthy growth. We value the individuality of each child by recognizing these differences and offering personal care and attention in a group setting. Each room provides a child-centered environment with a wide range of materials and developmentally appropriate activities, which allow children to create, manipulate, explore, and discover according to their particular and unique interests.
