The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States has announced the details of its 2025-2026 Voice of Democracy and Patriot’s Pen audio essay competitions!

This year’s shared theme is “How Are You Showing Patriotism and Support for Our Country?”

Entries are due to VFW Posts no later than October 31, 2025. The VFW Voice of Democracy National first-place winner will receive a $35,000 scholarship; this contest is for students in grades 9-12. The VFW Patriot’s Pen National first-place winner will receive $5,000; this contest is for students in grades 6-8.

Mr. Truett Elton is a World War II veteran living in the GA War Veterans Home. He was a Merchant Marine. His birthday is Novembers 12, 1924 and will turn 100 this year.

My name is Marianne Bruhn-Popik, President of the VFW Auxiliary Post 6686, Eatonton, Georgia.

We are reaching out to family, friends, and fellow Veterans from all over the world in sending him a Birthday card with a $1.00 donation wishing him a Happy Birthday. One dollar is like gold in the home.

Our goal is to give Mr. Elton 100 birthday cards on November 12th.

Due to road conditions around the area and the report from Emergency Management stating the rivers in lyndonville expected to rise to flooding and flood stages. We have decided to not open today stay safe everyone and see you tomorrow.
