🌾🦁 Thank You to Our Farmers!

Today, the South Plains Lions Club had the pleasure of welcoming Tim Cooper as our guest speaker from Land O Lakes!

Tim shared an insightful look at the evolution of farming and agriculture—from the technology and practices of the 1940s and ’50s to the incredible advancements we see today. 🚜📡

He talked about how satellite technology, precision agriculture, innovation, and modern farming technology have transformed the way farmers work and help feed our communities.

But one statistic really stuck with us:

🌾 In the early days, one farmer could feed approximately 6 people.
🌾 Today, one farmer can help feed approximately 230 people.

That kind of progress is remarkable—and it’s a great reminder of just how much we depend on the hard work, dedication, and innovation of our farmers.

So today, we echo Tim’s message:

Thank a farmer. 👨‍🌾❤️

🦁 Lions Club Welcomes Lubbock County Judge Curtis Parrish

Today, the Lubbock Lions Club was honored to hear from Lubbock County Judge Curtis Parrish as he shared an update on the State of Lubbock County and discussed a variety of issues impacting our community.

One message that especially stood out was the familiar saying:

🌳 “The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second-best time is today.”

Judge Parrish connected that idea to the work being done across Lubbock County—recognizing that many of the decisions and investments being made today are about building something that will benefit our children and their children for years to come.

From public safety and law enforcement to roads, infrastructure, courts, and the future of Lubbock County, today’s discussion gave our Lions members an opportunity to learn more about the work taking place in our community.

We appreciate Judge Parrish for taking the time to join us, share his perspective, and engage with the Lubbock Lions Club. 🦁👏

Planting today for a stronger tomorrow. 🌳

🦁 Lions Club Guest Speaker: Catholic Charities ❤️

Today, we were honored to hear from Helen Ledesme with Catholic Charities, Diocese of Lubbock.

Helen shared about the many ways Catholic Charities serves individuals and families in our community—from family support and direct assistance to elderly outreach, youth services, immigration services, and more.

One message that stood out was their desire to “be the hands and feet of God” by serving people, meeting needs, creating hope, and showing compassion to those who need it most. 🙏❤️

We’re grateful for the opportunity to learn more about the important work Catholic Charities is doing across our community.

💙 CHANGING LIVES. ONE CHILD AT A TIME. 💙

Today, we had the opportunity to hear from Myra and Tabatha with CASA of Lubbock and learn more about the incredible work they are doing for children in our community.

CASA serves children who have been removed from their homes through no fault of their own by providing advocacy and a consistent voice in the courtroom. Their mission is simple but powerful: change lives by making sure every child has someone advocating for their best interest.

👧🏽👦🏽 696 children are currently being served, with 325 CASA Advocates working to make a difference. These advocates go to court, gather information, and report on each child’s well-being to help ensure their needs are being heard and addressed. The ultimate goal being family reunification if suitable!

And here’s where YOU can make a difference! 🙌🏽

💙 CASA is looking for Volunteer Advocates!

✅ Must be 21 years or older
✅ Minimum 12-month commitment
✅ Be willing to advocate for a child and help make their voice heard

CASA of Lubbock serves six counties:

📍 Cochran
📍 Terry

Today, the Lions Club had the opportunity to hear from Veronica and Condra with the UMC Activities Center! 🦁💙

They shared about the incredible work being done through the Activities Center and the importance of creating opportunities for seniors to stay active, connected, engaged, and involved in their community.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to learn more about their mission and the impact they’re making right here in our community.

🌟 South Plains Lions Club Learns About the Impact of Goodwill Industries of Northwest Texas! 🌟

We were pleased to welcome Robin Raney, CEO of Goodwill Industries of Northwest Texas, and Amy Marquez, Director of Communications, to the South Plains Lions Club!

Our members learned about the many ways Goodwill is helping adults build brighter futures—not simply by helping people find a job, but by helping them build a career. 💼

Goodwill’s Career Centers provide support with:
📄 Resume writing
🧭 Career exploration
💻 Digital skills
🤖 AI skills and certifications
🎓 Workforce development and training

As Robin shared, “It’s not about just getting a job, it’s about building your skills and getting a career.”

We also learned about Boost Academy, a six-week program designed to equip employees with the skills and intangibles they need to become stronger, more successful employees.

Goodwill is also expanding its reach in Lubbock, including new locations serving the growing South Lubbock area and an upcoming Pathways of Success location on MLK Boulevard in East Lubbock.

Another exciting partnership is with Lubbock ISD, where Goodwill is helping provide opportunities for high school students while teaching four important core values:

🤝 Respect Others

Our Lion Boss, Larry Rogers, presented pens to the Board, acknowledging their dedication and thanking them for a great year.

Lion Edwina also honored our Lion Boss, Lion Norman, and Lion Greg for their years of service, dedication, and heart towards Lionism

We were privileged to host Shirley McGee, Travel Consultant with National Travel, who delivered an outstanding presentation about her role, the free services provided by her organization, and even left us with some helpful airline protocols. Additionally, we had the honor of presenting checks to Lubbock Boys & Girls Club, Lubbock Meals on Wheels, South Plains Food Bank, Texas Girls & Boys Ranch, Phoenix Scholarship with Optimist Club, Lubbock Habitat for Humanity, 100 Black Men of Texas, and Lubbock Children’s Health Clinic a few of the organizations we support. Thank you for all that you do!
