BIG NEWS! Thanks to the wonderful success of our recent fundraising efforts like the coffee crawl, Painting with a Twist nights, and our month-long May Flower coffee at J&B, we have been able to make tickets to the pool party on June 13th free for ALL ages! Get your tickets ASAP (https://www.eventbrite.com/e/1988569953261?aff=oddtdtcreator) and please read below for more information on what’s going on behind the scenes.

We’d like to give you a little background on everything that goes into the pool party and LubbockPride in general - hosting the pool party costs between $800 and $1000, depending on how many people attend. Most of our smaller events also cost several hundred dollars to put on, and our main festival is nearly $20,000. As some of you may know, grants, sponsorships, donations, and funding in general has been hit really hard for tons of people and organizations, ours included. We are usually able to use public grants to supplement the costs for the festival and some smaller events, but because we did not receive anything this year, we had tough choices to make. We tried getting sponsors for the pool party, but nothing worked out! Instead of cancelling the pool party, we chose to try charging to still provide a fun community event, but we understand that was not fully accessible for much of our community. We were unsure how successful other types of fundraising would be, but we were deeply honored at how many of you came to support our recent fundraisers, like the coffee crawl. While our fundraising has not completely covered the cost, we believe we can cover the remaining cost of the pool party in other ways! Please know that small support DOES HELP! These efforts and our ability to make the pool party free are proof that! We hope to see you at some of our other events soon ❤️

P. S. If you already purchased tickets, you will be getting a refund from Eventbrite soon! You should already have your new registration in your emails 🙂

On the first day of Pride month, we’re remembering Marsha P Johnson, the tireless activist who participated in the 1969 Stonewall riots against police.

She fought throughout her life for trans rights and for the rights of people of colour within the LGBT+ movement before her passing in 1992. Her body was pulled from the Hudson River, and her death was initially ruled to be by s*icide, but authorities later claimed it was a “drowning from undetermined causes”.

On the subject of history, Johnson famously said: “History isn’t something you look back at and say it was inevitable. It happens because people make decisions that are sometimes very impulsive and of the moment, but those moments are cumulative realities.”
