On October 31 in the year 1517 a priest named Martin Luther had finally had enough of the ever shifting and unbiblical teachings of the Church of Rome (Roman Catholic). He decided that someone should say something so he wrote a document with 95 points of concern and nailed it to a chapel door. This was a common way to post things publicly for debate. His intention was to correct and reform the Roman church but instead it sparked a religious war that would rage for decades and establish a doctrinal system that serves as the biblical basis for every Protestant church today.
Wether you lean Calvinist or Arminian, somewhere in between, or you don’t even know what all that means, you have the Great Reformation to thank for a heritage of Bible based faith. From Wycliffe to Wesley and beyond we stand on the shoulders of great men and defenders of faith.
Reformation doctrine can be simplified into 5 simple statements we call the 5 solas and they serve to define basic Bible truths based on a simple and contextual reading of scripture. Even if you are not a theology nerd like me, or have never heard of this stuff these 5 statements, taken largely from Ephesians chapter 2, are worthy of taking a few minutes to consider.
Happy Reformation Day
