The South Plains Food Bank is pleased to announce its Board of Directors for the 2026-2027 fiscal year, effective October 1, 2026. The organization also welcomes three new board members who bring valuable expertise, leadership, and a shared commitment to fighting hunger across the South Plains!
Leading the board this year is Justin Fleming, who assumes the role of Board Chair. He succeeds Gary McCoy, who will continue to serve on the board as Immediate Past Chair. Other officers include Eddie Schulz, Treasurer and Chair of the Finance Committee, and Anna Delano, Secretary and Chair of the Governance Committee.
Joining the board this year are Jon Mark Bernal, Saskia Allen, and Natalia Munoz-Moore. Their addition strengthens the board's diverse professional experience and community perspectives, helping advance the organization's mission to alleviate hunger and improve food security throughout the South Plains region!

Throughout the month of October, Spec's Wines, Spirits & Finer Foods has joined us in the fight against hunger! You can make an impact today and bring spirits home, and put spirit in the food boxes of families in need! Cheers to Spec's for not only fundraising, but for sharing our story with Lubbock. There is still time to get involved, visit any Spec's or Doc's location to participate. Spec's fundraiser will end on October 31st!

Many of us know Sheila Patterson-Harris for her years of service to our community on the Lubbock City Council.
But for us at the South Plains Food Bank, Sheila has been a familiar face at First Progressive Baptist Church's Mobile Distribution, never missing an opportunity to serve her neighbors. Every Thursday morning, she joins fellow volunteers bright and early, helping ensure families in our community receive the food and support they need.

We are so grateful for Landmark Bar & Kitchen Lubbock and their commitment to fighting hunger in our community! Thanks to your support, 600 meals will be provided to families and children in need across the South Plains. Partnerships like these make a meaningful difference in our community and help us continue our mission of ensuring our neighbors have access to nutritious food. More than 1 in 4 children on the South Plains don't know where their next meal will come from. That is true for students of all ages in Anton ISD. Thanks to an incredibly dedicated counselor, Alicia Ball, and our programs and operations team at the SPFB, children in Anton schools now have access to food at any time in their new school food pantry.
Studies show students learn, behave, and play better when they have a full belly. We are incredibly proud to be able to provide this basic need to the children across West Texas.

Yesterday, our CEO and Feeding Texas Board Chair, Dina Jeffries, alongside SPFB Board Member Bill Stubblefield, stood on the Texas Capitol steps to champion policies that fight hunger and support families across Texas.
Making sure every Texan has access to nutritious food takes more than meals. It takes advocacy. Through its work with lawmakers at both the state and federal levels, Feeding Texas helps shape legislation and nutrition programs that impact communities in every corner of our state.
As the statewide association for Texas' 20 food banks, Feeding Texas works tirelessly with state and federal lawmakers to advance anti-hunger policies and strengthen public nutrition programs that support families in all 254 Texas counties.
