👏Happy !👏🧑🌾Join us in appreciating Roots Booker T. Washington Community Garden and Lubbock Roots Historical Arts Council for their work of honoring the heritage of Black communities year-round.
🪻The Roots Booker T. Washington Community Garden has been serving as a source of more than fresh veggies since its inaugural season in 2013 – the garden provides education, community gathering space, and cultural enrichment through partnership with schools and churches.
🫂 The volunteer-run garden teaches the community to “learn, lead, and live well” by offering youth workshops, storytelling circles, and classes on composting, irrigation, and seed saving!
🥬The community and connections that are born at the garden are a testament to the hard work poured in by volunteers. In return, neighbors and volunteers can rely on the garden to carry ingredients that they regularly use, helping reduce the grocery bill for their families.
🪻Former Lubbock City Council member, Sheila Patterson Harris, describes the garden as being built by the community for the community.“...Groups that come here… they are here, using their blood, sweat and tears, to make this place happen, Harris said” (Via KCBD)🪻
👏Thank you to the volunteers, neighbors, and everyone at the Roots Historical Arts Council that makes this garden possible and lets healing and heritage take root in the Roots Booker T. Washington Community Garden. To get involved and learn more about what’s growing at the garden, visit the website: https://www.lubbockroots.org/booker-t-washington-community-garden---lubbock
