A Special Retirement Announcement

On Thursday, March 19, 2026, at 4:00 PM, the Lowell Police Department bid farewell to Assistant Chief Robert “Bobby” Hornickel, Badge 105.

Dispatch spoke words that captured a career defined by service and dedication:

"Attention all units on the air, standby for a special announcement. Dispatch to Assistant Chief Robert Hornickel, Badge 105."

Bobby, today we celebrate 29 years of a life lived in service from your 4 years as a USMC 5811 Military Police Officer to 25 years protecting the people of Lowell. You have been the definition of a 'Myth and a Legend.'

You’ve been the 'Big Deal' this department leaned on, the steady hand in the chaos. For nearly three decades, your family has lived by the sound of your radio and the rip of your Velcro waiting for that noise because it meant their hero was home safe.

Today, that radio goes silent. You’ve completed the mission, unlocked the final achievement, and officially Leveled Up to your next quest.

Assistant Chief Hornickel, thank you for your leadership, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication. You are officially 10-7. We’ve got the watch from here.

Please join us in congratulating Bobby on a legendary career and wishing him the very best in retirement! We will miss you.

Lowell FOP participated in its annual Cops and Kids shopping event on December 14th. Officers and families had a fun filled day of shopping and eating. Huge Thank you to everyone that made a donation. Whether it was $5 or $1000, every donation helped make this an amazing time! It takes a community and you all helped make it a huge successful day!

🎄🔥🚨 ATTENTION, CITIZENS OF EARTH (ESPECIALLY LOWELL) 🚨🔥🎄

Stop scrolling. Yes, you. Don’t pretend you’re “busy”—we can literally see you sitting on the couch eating leftover pizza and watching TikToks about dogs wearing sweaters.

We’re interrupting our regularly scheduled content of inspirational firehouse photos, warnings you read but don’t follow, and firefighters trying to look serious while holding puppies… because we have ACTUAL important news.

Our good friends at the Lowell F.O.P. approached us about helping gather donations and sponsors for Shop With A Cop—which directly gives Christmas gifts to local kids from families who could really use the help.

And before you hit that scroll button like it owes you money, we already know what some of you are thinking:
➡️ “Why should I help?”
➡️ “I don’t live in Lowell.”
➡️ “Isn’t this someone else’s job?”

Listen… fair questions.
But let’s gently (or aggressively) address reality.

Some of the same people about to scroll away are also:
🧐 Monitoring police and fire scanners like it’s a hobby
⛷️ Reporting your neighbor’s driveway because it looks like a ski resort
📣 Posting “PLEASE PRAY” every time a siren goes past your house
📌 Sharing the same inspirational quote about kindness for the 12th consecutive day

Here’s a thought:
How about some real actual kindness?
Like—the kind that exists in physical reality and affects actual humans?

Shop With A Cop gives real kids real gifts.
Not “notifications.”
Not “thoughts.”
Not “amen” comments.
Actual joy.

Real joy.
On purpose.
During Christmas.
For kids who deserve it.

Lowell FOP will once again be hosting our Cops and Kids shopping event on December 14th, 2025. Last year we took approximately 20 kids shopping and spent roughly $4,500.00 on the event. However, none of this could be done with the assistance and generosity of your community. Therefore, Lowell FOP is seeking donations for us to host this event. Donations can be dropped off at Lowell Police Department at any time. If donations are in check form, Please make them to Lowell FOP Lodge 186. No matter how small or large, any donation greatly helps this endeavor! Thank you very much!

Come out Sunday to the Lowell Fire Department and Police Department Open houses. See our vehicles and demonstrations. As well Lowell FOP Lodge will be selling Lowell Police Department Support Breast Cancer T shirts in pink (s-2xl $30, 3x/4x $35) and hooded sweatshirts in pink or black (s-2x $45, 3x/4x $55). All shirts will be on a pre-order/prepay basis with the order ending on Sunday October 18th. We also have some of our Lowell Canine Unit Challenge Coins for sale for $10 each.
