Loved celebrating with The Academy at Shawnee at their End of Year Celebration!

We were so grateful to provide laptops to the students who completed Canopy’s Business Beyond Profit curriculum this year. And yes, we had to make sure they came with Canopy stickers, of course!

It is always a joy to see young people engaging with the idea that business can be a force for good, and we’re proud to support the next generation of leaders, builders, and changemakers right here in Kentucky.

Thank you to Shawnee for having us and congratulations to the students on all of their hard work!

Meet David Horne, President of and a Canopy member, our next feature in our Good Business Spotlight series.

“At , we help organizations build their brand through corporate apparel and promo products… but more than that, we help leaders build their culture.” Through custom webstores and branded merchandise, their work goes beyond logos—it's about helping teams, schools, and organizations create a sense of belonging.

That people-first mindset shows up in every interaction. “We don’t want to just process orders. We want to help people create something meaningful.” Internally, that same care extends to their team, fostering an environment where people feel valued and supported. Over the past 40 years, has also been a home to the refugee community, helping more than 200 individuals become U.S. citizens.

“When profit and pressure show up together, we let our integrity and core values guide our decisions.” Their approach centers on doing the right thing, even when it’s harder, with the belief that trust and long-term relationships matter more than short-term gain.

And much of that commitment happens behind the scenes. “The follow-up, the double-checking, the teamwork… that’s part of our culture.” It’s the invisible work that ensures every client and every order is handled with care.

Good business shows up for people.

If that sounds like you, you’re in the right place.

We are thrilled to announce that Canopy has been included in Kentucky's Biennial Budget as passed by the 2026 General Assembly! After months of hard work and loads of support both in and out of the state legislature, our request for $750,000 over two years to scale our Business Beyond Profit unit came through. This high school education program is already working at 9 Jefferson County high schools, and this support will allow us to reach out to the rest of the Commonwealth.

Many thanks to all the Kentucky Legislators who helped get this across the finish line, and many thanks to all our supporters and Canopy Member companies who continue to support our work every day. We couldn't do it without you!

Meet Dee Dee Taylor, owner of 502 H**p Wellness Center and a Canopy member, our next feature in our Good Business Spotlight series.

“I wouldn’t say I really make any specific product myself, but I do make people happy.” Dee Dee describes her role as being the trusted, retail side of the h**p space—helping customers navigate options, especially those who are new to CBD, with a focus on education and guidance.

Her approach is intentionally people-first. “We slow things down… we don’t try to sell people products that they don’t really need.” Instead of pushing sales, she prioritizes building trust, making sure every customer feels informed and supported in their decisions.

That mindset extends to how she defines success. “I did not get in this business to be rich… money has always been paper.” Even as costs increase, she remains committed to offering safe, reliable, quality products without immediately raising prices, keeping accessibility at the center of her business.

And while much of her work happens behind the scenes, her presence is constant. “I’m still there… it still matters to me.” From operations to advocacy, Dee Dee continues to show up for both her customers and the broader industry.

A reminder that there’s no one way to build a good business.

For some, it looks like creating jobs and investing back into the community that supported them. For others, it’s designing products or services that solve real problems people face every day. Sometimes it’s about how a company treats its employees, sometimes it’s about how it shows up for its neighbors, and sometimes it’s about all of those things at once.

Business beyond profit doesn’t follow a single model, and it shouldn’t. Different communities have different needs, and the businesses within them should reflect that. What matters is the intention behind it and the willingness to build something that contributes to more than just the bottom line.

At Canopy, we believe good business can take many forms, but it always starts with the idea that success and impact can go hand in hand.

This is what “business beyond profit” actually looks like.

High school students across Louisville aren’t just learning how to start businesses — they’re learning how to solve real problems in their communities through them.

Through Canopy’s Business Beyond Profit curriculum, students are building ideas that connect profit and purpose from day one. And the results? Creative, thoughtful, community-first businesses led by the next generation.

This is the future of good business in Kentucky 💛
