We're excited to welcome Erika Hartman as the new Chief Executive Officer of Covenant House California.🎉

Erika brings decades of leadership serving youth experiencing homelessness and other vulnerable communities across Los Angeles. Most recently, she served as CEO of Safe Place for Youth, where she more than doubled the organization's size while expanding innovative, youth-centered programs.

With her passion, experience, and commitment to ensuring every young person has the opportunity to thrive, we're excited for this next chapter.

Last week, we celebrated two significant milestones at our Oakland campus: the completion of a capital project which adds 20 additional beds for young people experiencing homelessness, and the dedication of our Oakland site in honor of the late Brian Bob.

Brian devoted more than three decades to Covenant House California. Beginning in street outreach in the late 80s, he helped establish our earliest Oakland programs, served in development and youth engagement, and ultimately led the Oakland Wellness Center. Throughout his career, he embodied compassion, inclusion, and an unwavering commitment to ensuring every young person felt seen, heard, and supported.

Naming our Oakland site after Brian is more than a tribute; it’s a commitment to carrying his legacy forward. Every young person who walks through our doors will enter a space rooted in the values Brian lived every day: unconditional love, dignity, belonging, and hope.

We’re honored to celebrate Brian’s extraordinary legacy while continuing to expand access to safe shelter and supportive services for youth across California.

Amyah, Kaleef, and Nova each came to Covenant House California searching for safety, support, and a chance to move forward.

Today, they’re building brighter futures, but thousands of young people across California are still waiting for that same opportunity.

That’s why we’re expanding our impact by opening 80 new beds statewide this year.

The first night a young person arrives at CHC, they’re often exhausted, mentally, physically, and emotionally. Many don’t know who they can trust.

Then something shifts.

They meet people who listen. They rediscover their creativity. They begin to imagine a future again.

That transformation is what Speak Out is all about.

On May 13, we’re bringing our community together for an evening of storytelling, music, and art, featuring performances by the young people we serve and special guest Amy Grant.

Too often, youth experiencing homelessness are reduced to statistics or stereotypes. But behind every number is a story of resilience, talent, and potential.

At Speak Out, we’re changing the narrative and raising critical funds to support housing, education, and career pathways for young people building stable futures.
