Thank you SRL!! So surprised and happy to accept this award on behalf of all of the staff and members of CCL who make this work possible! And - Happy 10th Anniversary!! 2015 was a landmark year: the first Earth Day Celebration and the revival of the Sustainability Plan that had been shelved in 2011. Looking forward to continuing our combined efforts to make this a more livable world.
5 days until the 2025 Longmont Sustainability Awards. For our countdown this year we are introducing each of our awardees🥳!
Volunteer of the Year: Virginia “Ginny” Black
Virginia “Ginny” Black joined the Longmont community in 2010 after retiring from the faculty of NYU School of Medicine. Her research had most recently focused on the effects of endocrine disruptors, and she quickly got involved with environmentally concerned groups, including Citizens’ Climate Lobby (CCL), a non-partisan organization focused on developing the political will to find solutions to our increasing climate crisis through public education and engagement with our members of Congress. In 2017, she facilitated the formation of a CCL chapter in Longmont, which has worked collaboratively with SRL on programs and events. CCL’s lobbying efforts helped to pass the IRA tax credits and rebates that have been used by many in Longmont to electrify their homes and businesses. Ginny is proud that this collaborative work supports Longmont’s Sustainability Plan and increases use of renewable energy, decreasing the impact of fossil fuel generated greenhouse gasses on our health and environment. She is grateful for all of the friends she has made along the way, emphasizing the goals of Longmont’s Sustainability Coalition that we are stronger together.
