“We do things here with transplant that many other centers don’t adventure to do.”
- Dr. Natalie Shwaish, pediatric cardiologist.

Over the years, Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital has received many donations that support the care that children like Alaia need. We’d like to recognize the community for being apart of Alaia’s journey in this final segment of her story.

When her heart could no longer fight alone, Alaia’s care team and family made the decision to place her on ECMO. As it supported her body, her family hoped she could grow strong enough for a transplant and withstand the demands of the complex machine.

Then came a breakthrough. Dr. Natalie Shwaish and our team had finally identified a heart donor, marking a turning point in Alaia’s journey.

🎥 Part 3 coming soon.

We call her our miracle baby. 💛

Born with half a heart, Alaia has been surrounded by care from our ICU and cardiology teams since day one. September 30 marked a major milestone — her final surgery. But would it truly be the last step towards healing at Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital?

🌟 Stay tuned for part 2.

Honoring 30 years of impact 💙⛳️

The Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital Foundation was honored to receive a $400,000 gift from the Walter’s Children’s Charity Classic Committee, raised during the 30th and final tournament.

Over three decades, this event has generated more than $7 million to support pediatric health, helping fund life-saving equipment, advance cancer care, enhance patient programs, and strengthen countless areas across the hospital.

We are grateful for every child they have helped along the way. 🙏

We were honored to welcome the Delta Kappa Gamma (DKG) International Society for Key Women Educators to Loma Linda, where they generously shared their mission with our patients.

Across all 50 states, DKG members have gifted more than one million “Jared Boxes,” each one hand-packaged with love. (The Jared Box Project ) Our hope is that these boxes will bring comfort and joy to children facing challenging hospital stays.

The initiative was created in memory of a brave young boy, Jared, who lost his battle with cancer in 2000. May his legacy live on as each patient who receives a Jared Box carries forward his strength!

Thank you, DKG. 💙

On 4800, our pediatric cancer unit, healing looks a little different—and sometimes, it comes full circle.

Today, we’re proud to celebrate two extraordinary members of our team who once walked these halls as patients. 💛

Shelby (right) bravely faced Hodgkin’s lymphoma, and Heather (left) overcame acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). Now, both have returned—not as patients, but as dedicated employees—using their experiences to uplift and inspire the very children and families they once stood beside.

Their journeys remind us that healing doesn’t end at discharge. It grows into purpose. Into compassion. Into a calling to give back.

Every day, they bring something truly special to 4800:
✨ Empathy born from experience
✨ Strength rooted in resilience
✨ Hope that lights the way forward

We’re honored to have them as part of our team—and grateful for the reminder that even in the hardest moments, brighter days are possible. 💫
