The Cass County Soil and Water Conservation District acts to protect the health of our soil and water resources and the diverse ecologies associated with them.

Our address is 500 High Street, Logansport, Indiana 46947. The USDA Service Center where the Cass Co SWCD is housed is open to the public. Cass Co SWCD hours are Monday - Friday, 8am to 4 pm. Please note, both the SWCD and NRCS spend significant time assisting Cass County residents in the field....calling ahead to make sure we are in or to make an appointment is always a good idea. 574-753-4705 ext 101, ask for Leah, to reach the Cass Co SWCD. 574-753-4705 ext 109, ask for John, to reach the NRCS District Conservationist. This information is subject to change following Federal Covid workplace guidlines.

On Wednesday this week, we hosted our first ever Pop Up Nature Party at the SWCD office at 500 High Street and boy oh, but did we have FUN! You can never underestimate the value of hands-on learning and learning through play, we think. Aspecial thanks goes to our fantastic partners: Jes Hatt with ISDA and Casey Venable with Resilient Indiana: Technical Assistance for SWCDs worked SWCD Intern Maddie to bring in benthic insects from the Eel River behind the office. Claire King with Purdue Extension Cass County introduced families to 4-H and ran a bug puzzle station.

Did you know that in the 1940's, it is estimated there were less than 1000 whitetail deer in the entire state of Indiana? Here in Cass County, interest in our 2026 Urban Deer Program at 10 am on Saturday, November 7 at the Logansport-Cass County Public Library is really picking up momentum (and so is our urban deer population)! Join the Cass County SWCD and partners for a free educational and informative discussion and light refreshments with:

We had SO much fun at this year's Howl at the Moon with Logansport Parks & Recreation Department! The weather was perfect and it was so wonderful to see families enjoying Fairview Park. This year, the SWCD theme was all about bats! Our fruit bat puppet was very, very busy saying "hello" to a steady stream of trick-or-treaters and their people. We passed out several hundred bat stickers and cards with bat facts, too.
