SO, THOSE OF US WHO ARE PET PARENTS ARE PROBABLY GETTING BOMBARDED WITH ADS FOR KEEPING BIO FILM AT BAY...HOW TO WASH YOUR DOG BOWLS ETC. I'VE USED RESCUE DISINFECTANT FOR YEARS NOW TO CLEAN MY HOME AND PET BOWLS. HERE'S A SIMPLE SOLUTION TO MAKING SURE YOUR DOGS BOWLS ARE CLEAN. I HAVE GONE TO THE WATER FOUNTAINS AS IT DOES HELP FILTER THE WATER WHEN THEY DRINK AND THAT HELPS KEEP THE BIO FILM AT BAY, HOWEVER THEY MUST ALSO BE CLEANED REGULARLY AND THE FILTERS REPLACED EVERY SO OFTEN. (CONSULT INSTRUCTIONS ON THE WATER FOUNTAIN YOU CHOOSE TO PURCHASE). MY OWN RECOMMENDATION IS THAT YOU STICK WITH FOOD GRADE/MEDICAL GRADE STAINLESS STEEL.
HERE ARE SOME TIPS IF YOU WISH TO DISINFECT WITH RESCUE DISINFECTANT. BUY THE CONCENTRATE IN THE LARGER SIZE AND MAKE UP YOUR OWN CLEANING SPRAY BOTTLES.
You can use Rescue disinfectant (powered by Accelerated Hydrogen Peroxide) on pet food and water bowls, but it is a disinfectant, not a mechanical cleaner. Because biofilm is a sticky, physical matrix of bacteria and organic residue, chemicals alone cannot simply melt it away; you must physically scrub the surface to break it up. Proper Cleaning StepsPre-clean first: Wash the bowl thoroughly with hot water and dish soap (I use Dawn blue) using a dedicated scrub brush or sponge to physically remove the slimy biofilm layer. (I do not use sponges, so I use the green scrubby cleaners and cut one of the larger ones into four sections....I thoroughly clean using Rescue Disinfectant on them and throw the strip away each week). Disinfect: Apply Rescue Disinfectant (following label instructions for use on Animal Attraction Unlimited) to ensure lingering pathogens are killed.Rinse thoroughly: The manufacturer explicitly recommends rinsing food-contact surfaces like pet bowls with clean water after the required contact time is met to remove any residual detergent or peroxide film.Air dry: Let the bowl dry completely before refilling it with food or water.
I use Yeti bowls for food as they are non porous and that is essential to keep micro biofilm at bay. Yes, Yeti bowls are very good for keeping micro biofilm low because they are made from non-porous, food-grade 18/8 stainless steel. Unlike plastic or scratched ceramic, stainless steel resists microscopic scratches and grooves where bacteria love to hide and colonize.
And NO, I do not get any kickbacks from either company........it's just what I personally do in my rescue and for my personal dogs/cats....etc See less
