Printmaking in Action with Featured Artist Jennifer Anderson

Join this year’s Featured Artist, Jennifer Anderson, for a lively demonstration of two timeless printmaking techniques: drypoint relief printing and drypoint intaglio. Using her portable tabletop etching press, she’ll walk you through the steps of each process – from carving and inking a woodcut to pulling a print from a hand-drawn drypoint plate. Jennifer will share how she combines her love of wildlife with these traditional methods to create intricate, nature-inspired artworks. You’ll see finished prints, work-in-progress plates, and learn how each mark on the surface becomes part of the final
image. Whether you’re an art enthusiast or simply curious about the magic of ink and paper, this is your chance to see printmaking up close and discover the process behind each impression.

Mamie Starr was recently selected as the recipient of the Jay Bell Conservation Award by the Lodi Sandhill Crane Association (LSCA) Board of Directors. The award, named for retired Lodi educator Jay Bell, recognizes work by an individual or organization that promotes wildlife education and conservation, benefiting Sandhill Cranes and other native species. “Selection of Mamie was an easy choice,” states LSCA President Ken Nieland. “Not only has she been a superstar with the Association and its annual Sandhill Crane Festival, but Mamie continues to serve as a highly respected Lead Docent for the California Department of Fish and
Wildlife, leading crane-viewing tours several months each year.”

The LSCA Jay Bell Conservation Award will be presented to Mamie Starr on Friday,
November 7th, during a free meet-and-greet reception at Lodi’s Hutchins Street Square from 6 to 8 p.m., which kicks off the annual weekend Festival.

🌾 The California Delta is more than a scenic landscape — it’s a living, breathing ecosystem that cranes depend on.
Our wetlands provide vital food and roosting sites for thousands of migratory birds along the Pacific Flyway.
Protecting wetlands means protecting the heartbeat of bird migration. 💚

“Sharing love of the natural world is at the heart of everything I do.”

The Lodi Sandhill Crane Association is excited to have Jennifer Anderson as our talented Featured Artist. Jennifer has received several awards from our judges for her paintings of Sandhill Cranes and other California wildlife. She has also been the recipient of the “People’s Choice Award” where our festival attendees vote for their favorite piece of artwork.

Jennifer L. Anderson is a painter and printmaker working in many disciplines. Her iconic and evocative imagery are informed by her experiences as a woman and a mother, as well as her love of the natural world.

“Art-making is my key to the secret garden, my journey through the looking glass; it
provides never-ending possibilities of exploration and connection. Some imagery seems to be hard-wired into my soul, especially birds. I am captivated by their movements, their forms and the space they create with their actions.
In our current world of high-tech, uber-fast everything, I create intimate work at a very slowpace. For me the printmaking and painting processes influence the creation as much as the content does. Each step to the final piece involves the artist’s hand, with direct mark- making influencing the development of every image.”

Monterey, California, has been Anderson’s home for the past 16 years. She is fortunate to be able to split her time between Monterey and her family home in Vermont, both places offering her a connection to the flora and fauna of the natural world.
