Last Thursday, residents from Luther Acres - A Luthercare Community spent the day exploring one of the region’s most celebrated gardens, taking in the creativity, color, and beauty woven throughout the landscape. It’s the kind of place that encourages you to slow down and stay curious.

Special delivery! 📬 Postcard #2 from Two Friends, Five Lakes, Endless Memories!

The adventure continues!

Since our last postcard, Debby and Ruth have traveled farther north along the shores of Lake Michigan, discovering historic landmarks, scenic shorelines, and some uniquely Michigan experiences along the way.

Their journey included visits to the Indiana Dunes National Park, the historic St. Joseph lighthouses, and several picturesque beach communities along Michigan's western coast. A stop in Grand Haven introduced them to Michigan's famous Blue Moon ice cream, a sweet treat that quickly became a trip highlight.

As they continued north, Debby and Ruth explored waterfront towns including Ludington and Manistee, where iconic lighthouses and beautiful views of Lake Michigan awaited around every bend.

The next chapter of their journey began with a Road Scholar tour, featuring the breathtaking Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, a canoe excursion on the St. Marys River, and a visit to the impressive Mackinac Bridge.

They arrived on Mackinac Island, where they enjoyed a carriage ride around the island and a memorable lunch at the historic Grand Hotel.

With more lakes to see and more memories to make, this unforgettable journey is far from over. We can't wait to share where the road takes Debby and Ruth next! 💙

Meet Martin Moore, one of the dedicated groundskeepers helping keep St. John's Herr Estate - A Luthercare Community beautiful year-round. 🪻🌳

Martin joined the St. John’s Herr Estate team nearly two years ago after retiring from a career as an executive vice president for a manufacturing and distribution fulfillment company. Looking for a way to stay active and spend more time outdoors, he traded the boardroom for the landscaping crew, and we’re glad he did.

A typical day starts by making sure the equipment is ready to go before prioritizing the work that keeps our campus looking its best. While our maintenance-free lifestyle may seem effortless, Martin says it’s the care and attention the grounds team puts into every task that makes it possible.

What he enjoys most is being part of a supportive team and building connections with the wonderful people who call St. John’s Herr Estate home. And while he enjoys every aspect of groundskeeping, he jokes that the biggest challenge is finding enough hours in the day to get everything done.

Thank you, Martin, for everything you do to help make St. John’s Herr Estate a beautiful place to live and enjoy every season. 💙

Gardening has a way of bringing people together, and yesterday’s Garden Party & Tour was a beautiful reminder of that. 🪏🌸

The tour offered the chance to explore colorful flowers, thoughtfully landscaped gardens, and unique outdoor spaces created by fellow residents. Each stop reflected the pride and personality that make Luther Acres - A Luthercare Community such a special place to call home.

The afternoon concluded with a garden-inspired lunch, bringing everyone together to share conversation, inspiration, and a delicious meal inspired by the season’s freshest flavors. 🌽🥬

🎶 The music never stopped and the fun never missed a beat during our first annual Music Festival at St. John's Herr Estate - A Luthercare Community!

From classic musical films and sing-alongs to sharing favorite memories inspired by songs through the decades, the week was filled with harmony, laughter, and plenty of toe-tapping fun.

The celebration hit all the right notes with a relaxing Wine & Cheese Mixer featuring live entertainment from Sweet Life Music, our monthly Hymn Sing filled with familiar favorites, and a special performance by Executive Director Matt featuring songs all about time. Together, these moments created the perfect soundtrack for a memorable week.

Thank you to everyone who joined the festivities and helped make our first Music Festival such a chart-topping success. 💙🎼

Nothing says summer quite like our annual Resident Picnic! 🧺☀️

Yesterday, Luther Acres - A Luthercare Community residents gathered together to enjoy an afternoon filled with great food, great company, and plenty of summer spirit. The menu featured all the backyard barbecue favorites, from pulled pork and BBQ chicken to macaroni and cheese and baked potatoes—all prepared by our incredible dining team, who truly outdid themselves.

More than just a delicious meal, the picnic was an opportunity for residents to connect with friends, meet new neighbors, and celebrate the vibrant community that residents are proud to call home. It was also a wonderful opportunity for our team members to spend time with residents, share conversations, and strengthen the meaningful relationships that are at the heart of community life. 💙

We’re so grateful for days like these that bring everyone together, create lasting memories, and kick off the summer season in the best way! 🌻
