🌟 Happy Weekend Vibes! 🌟

Pixie, Piper, and our newest rescue female, Peaches, are doing wonderfully together! 💕

Sugar gliders are extremely social animals and thrive with companionship. Peaches arrived with four male sugar gliders, and after completing her quarantine period, we decided to introduce her to Pixie and Piper. To prevent any future surprise babies, Peaches was placed with the girls.

The introductions could not have gone any better! The girls instantly became the best of friends. From snuggling together to exploring their enclosure side by side, it has been heartwarming to watch their bond grow.

Did you know? In the wild, sugar gliders live in family groups referred to as a colony and rely on social interaction for their emotional well-being. Keeping them with compatible companions helps them feel safe, enriched, and happy.

We are so grateful to see Peaches settling in so quickly and finding friendship with Pixie and Piper. 🩵

🌙 Nighttime vibes at Kindred Hearts Animal Rescue & Sanctuary, Inc. 🌖

While most of our residents are settling in for the night, a few are just getting started!

Nighttime checks and enrichment are an important part of caring for some of our residents, including Bean, our Geoffroy’s Cat, and Juneau, our American Mink. Both species are primarily nocturnal, meaning they are naturally most active after the sun goes down.

We regularly check on our nocturnal animals and often spend a little extra time providing nighttime enrichment. Enrichment is extremely important because it encourages natural behaviors, provides mental stimulation, reduces boredom, and helps keep animals physically active and emotionally healthy. From exploring new scents to solving food puzzles and investigating new objects, enrichment helps ensure their lives are as engaging and fulfilling as possible.

There’s something special about spending a quiet evening with these amazing animals and watching them do what they do best. 🩵

🐴🫏 Today was Farrier Day at Kindred Hearts Animal Rescue & Sanctuary!

You know your animals love their farrier when they line up on their own and patiently wait their turn, NO halters needed! 🩵

A huge thank you to Luke for helping keep our rescues looking and feeling their best. Proper hoof care is essential to the overall health and well-being of horses and donkeys, and we are so grateful for his continued dedication to the animals in our care.

We'll see you again in five weeks to do it all over again!

If you would like to help support our farrier expenses, donations are always greatly appreciated. As a volunteer and donation run rescue, every contribution helps ensure our animals receive the care they deserve.

Thank you for helping us keep happy, healthy feet under our rescues! 🐴🩵

Happy Thursday from Indigo, our professional napper, snack enthusiast, and full-time lazy bum. 💤🤣

As a non-releasable Virginia opossum born without fully developed eyes, Indigo depends on his other senses to navigate the world. Thankfully, that doesn’t stop him from enjoying life one bit!

In fact, his daily routine is pretty simple:

😴 Sleep
💤 More sleep
🍽 Have a snack
🥱 Recover from the snack with a nap
🛏 Sleep some more

We regularly find Indigo snoozing in the most ridiculous positions imaginable. Curled up in a ball, stretched out like a superhero, upside down, or somehow folded in ways that don’t seem physically possible. We’re convinced he’s trying to invent new sleeping positions.

Fun Fact: Opossums have an incredible sense of smell and hearing, which helps them navigate their environment. They also sleep up to 18-20 hours a day, making Indigo an expert in the fine art of napping! 🩵

Happy Monday from our Patagonian Maras, Harry and Lloyd! 🩵

Did you know these two boys are talented artists? 🎨 They love creating artwork for us to sell so they can help earn their keep around here. 🤣

When they're not busy making masterpieces, Harry and Lloyd enjoy spending their days relaxing, snacking, napping, playing, and then doing it all over again.

Fun fact: Patagonian maras are one of the largest rodents in the world! Native to Argentina, they're often described as a cross between a rabbit and a tiny deer because of their long ears, slender legs, and unique appearance.

If you're interested in purchasing this one of a kind beautiful piece of artwork created by Harry and Lloyd, please send us a message or contact us:

Meet Barry 🐴

Barry is a handsome Thoroughbred gelding looking for his perfect forever home as a companion horse only.

At 15 years old and standing around 16.1 hands, Barry is full of personality and absolutely adores people. Barry’s arthritis only shows when under saddle, which is why he is looking for a companion-only home. He still enjoys turnout, playing with friends, and being part of a herd. We can’t believe this awesome guy is still looking for his forever home.

Barry has lived with full-size horses, minis, and donkeys. He is social, playful, and truly enjoys attention from his people.

Non-rideable horses still deserve amazing homes. Horses like Barry can make wonderful companions, therapy partners, liberty horses, or simply your best friend in the pasture.

If you think Barry may be the perfect addition to your family, please reach out to us to learn more about adoption.
