A big congratulations to J’Quan Thompson, who joined us to share his RYLA experience!

J’Quan spoke about the people and experiences that pushed him outside his comfort zone and helped him grow. He shared valuable lessons about teamwork and leadership—including an important reminder that a strong leader is someone who listens and is willing to learn from those around them.

We’re especially excited that J’Quan is applying to become a RYLA facilitator, with the hope of helping create the same meaningful experience for next year’s participants.

Peer pressure for seniors! Check this out!

Seniors are among the fastest-growing demographics for ma*****na use in the U.S., taking the drug to manage pain, fall asleep and have fun. But it’s not all bliss.

Tensions are rising as the scent perfumes senior centers and retirement communities. Some elderly adults blame secondhand pot smoke for a host of medical problems, from depression to headaches to breathing issues. There are social pressures, too, with a number of baby boomers saying their peers make them feel like narcs and nerds if they complain.

About 10% of respondents to a recent study of ma*****na use by seniors in New York said they use cannabis to “fit in,” said Joseph Palamar, a professor at NYU Langone Medical Center who co-wrote the report.

“If Edna is the one that has the gummies, then it might be like, ‘Oh, I want to be cool like Edna. I don’t really want it, I’m scared, but she’s the cool one and I feel like I have to try it now,’” Palamar said.

Babylon Cares had a great time at the So Long Summer Soirée in Deer Park today, connecting with families, sharing prevention resources, and spreading the word about upcoming opportunities to get involved.
