Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) means students with disabilities should learn alongside students without disabilities to the maximum extent appropriate.
The IEP team should consider what supports and services a student needs to succeed in the general education classroom before considering a more restrictive setting.

💡 Remember: Having a disability does not automatically mean a student should be placed in a separate classroom. The goal is to provide the supports needed for students to learn and participate with their peers whenever appropriate.

Specially Designed Instruction is individualized teaching designed to meet a student’s unique needs related to their disability.

It may include adapting teaching strategies, materials, pacing, or how information is presented to help the student learn.
