Meals On Wheels Ligonier Valley Hot fresh meals are prepared daily for delivery to our recipients. Ligonier Valley Meals on Wheels services Ligonier Borough & Ligonier Township.

Meals are prepared in the kitchen at Heritage Methodist Church and served at noon Monday through Friday except holidays. For the safety of volunteers, Meals on Wheels service is suspended during school snow days. The program operates with a corps of over 100 volunteers and a part-time staff of three. Our paid staff includes a kitchen supervisor, a volunteer coordinator and a custodian. Ligonier Va

lley Meals on Wheels is an independent, non-profit. We depend upon donations from area churches, businesses, community groups and concerned individuals to help us keep the cost to recipients affordable. Background: Meals on Wheels grew from a program started in England in the 1930’s. In the 1950’s that program grew and spread to other countries including the United States. The first Meals on Wheels home delivery program began in Philadelphia in 1954. It takes more than one hundred volunteers to operate Ligonier Valley Meals on Wheels. Volunteers are needed as cooks or drivers on one of the designated routes. For more information call 724-238-7250

Ligonier Valley Meals On Wheels will be delivering meals today to homes that are accessible following the storm from yesterday.

If access to your home is blocked, we will not be able to deliver. We would appreciate it if you could let us know in advance by calling Peg so that we do not send a driver if we cannot get to your home.

Most importantly, we hope each of our recipients and volunteers are safe.

Our wonderful drivers are the face to our community. They have fantastic stories to tell of the people they serve and the people they encounter.

One driver recently brought back a story that we simply must share.

As he was doing his meal delivery to one of our recipients, he encountered two youngsters who had setup a lemonade stand. As he was getting into his car to head to the next delivery, one of the kids called him over and handed him this $5 bill. The child was insistent that this money which had been raised at the lemonade stand be donated to Meals on Wheels.

Our rewards come in such simple and meaningful ways. I literally cry as I relay this story.

Congratulations to these young folks on your selflessness, their parents for raising such giving children, and our volunteers who give their all.

Hats off to Bernie Lynch!

Bernie has been a member of the board of directors for Ligonier Valley Meals on Wheels for the past year. He also sometimes assists his wife Connie with deliveries.

While originally from Pittsburgh, Bernie also spent time while growing up in Latrobe. He now lives in Ligonier with his wife. They have 3 daughters and 9 grandchildren.

He loves the mission of Meals on Wheels.

In his free time, he likes hunting, fishing, pottery and baseball.

We appreciate all that Bernie does for Meals on Wheels! Thank you!!!
