Meals On Wheels Ligonier Valley

Hot fresh meals are prepared daily for delivery to our recipients. Ligonier Valley Meals on Wheels services Ligonier Borough & Ligonier Township.

Meals are prepared in the kitchen at Heritage Methodist Church and served at noon Monday through Friday except holidays. For the safety of volunteers, Meals on Wheels service is suspended during school snow days. The program operates with a corps of over 100 volunteers and a part-time staff of three. Our paid staff includes a kitchen supervisor, a volunteer coordinator and a custodian. Ligonier Valley Meals on Wheels is an independent, non-profit. We depend upon donations from area churches, businesses, community groups and concerned individuals to help us keep the cost to recipients affordable. Background: Meals on Wheels grew from a program started in England in the 1930’s. In the 1950’s that program grew and spread to other countries including the United States. The first Meals on Wheels home delivery program began in Philadelphia in 1954. It takes more than one hundred volunteers to operate Ligonier Valley Meals on Wheels. Volunteers are needed as cooks or drivers on one of the designated routes. For more information call 724-238-7250

Welcome to one of our newest volunteers-Joann Kemp!

Joann joined us in June 2026 as a delivery driver Thursdays on Route 3.

She is celebrating 30 years of marriage to her husband Sam. They have one sone, Paden who attends Slippery Rock University. They reside in Stahlstown.

When asked her favorite thing about working at Meals on Wheels, she replied: 'Volunteering with MOW is my way of honoring my late father. My Dad, Joe, received MOW for many years and the meals and drivers were a great blessing to my family. I pray I can be a blessing to others.'

A few fun facts about Joann! She recently retired from a career in sales and customer service management (and loved it!). She and her husband enjoy gardening and hiking. Joann also likes to read, cross-stich and go antique shopping. In addition, this busy lady sings with the worship team at her church and teaches children's Sunday School to a group of AWESOME kids.

We are thrilled to have you with us Joann! Thank you for blessing us with your time & commitment to our Meals On Wheels family.

Have you ever seen Burrata on a menu or in the grocery store & wondered what it was?

Burrata, translated from Italian, means “buttery.” Simplified, it’s mozzarella cheese filled with a softer, more creamier cheese.

Merriam-Webster defines burrata as mozzarella formed into a ball-shaped casing that contains curds and cream — technically called “stracciatella,” which is Italian for little rags or little shreds.

The curds are stretched into a pouch that’s filled with cream and cheese.

Basically, it’s two cheeses in one.

Burrata dates back to the early 1900s in southern Italy’s Puglia region.

On menus, you will frequently find burrata as an appetizer or sometimes on a pizza. You can also enjoy burrata at home, but keep in mind burrata’s refrigerator shelf life is short and it doesn’t age well, so plan to enjoy all of it within 24 hours.

Whether in a restaurant or at home, it is absolutely delicious. I encourage you to give it a try!
