lley Meals on Wheels is an independent, non-profit. We depend upon donations from area churches, businesses, community groups and concerned individuals to help us keep the cost to recipients affordable. Background: Meals on Wheels grew from a program started in England in the 1930’s. In the 1950’s that program grew and spread to other countries including the United States. The first Meals on Wheels home delivery program began in Philadelphia in 1954. It takes more than one hundred volunteers to operate Ligonier Valley Meals on Wheels. Volunteers are needed as cooks or drivers on one of the designated routes. For more information call 724-238-7250

Today we highlight another wonderful volunteer-Christine (Tina) Omiatek.

Tina has been with Meals on Wheels for about a year and is a Thursday cook.

She grew up in Irwin, retired from teaching in the Finger Lakes region of New York and moved to Ligonier 21 years ago. Tina lives with her husband Tom. They have one son, one daughter (in Ohio) and three granddaughters: ages 13, 16 & 21.

When asked her favorite thing about working at MOW, she said she loves the people she works with and knowing that what she does enables people to continue to live in their own homes.

Tina has a variety of interests in her spare time including outdoor activities (gardening, biking and cross-country skiing). When she can't get outside, she enjoys sewing and reading. She always cherishes her time with friends and family.

Tina-we are so glad to have you as part of the Ligonier Valley Meals on Wheels family! Thank you for all that you do!

Thank you to all who attended our volunteer tea on Sunday May 3, 2026. It was a fun and lively atmosphere as our volunteers were recognized & got a chance to connect with each other. We also were able to hear some wonderful stories relayed by our volunteers.

Our thanks also go out to Chef George & Abigail's Coffeehouse for the delicious sandwiches and The Pie Shoppe for the wonderful cookies. Hats off to the members of the board as well for organizing this great event.

Thanks to Bill Pribisco (Pribisco Photography) for capturing photos to remember this event.

We hope you enjoy looking through the photos!

Prevent Sticking by ensuring your pan and oil are hot enough (350-375°F) before adding food to avoid sticking and sogginess.

We never cease to be amazed at the generosity of our community.

Our utmost appreciation and thanks go out to the family members of Ruthie's Diner who so generously contributed frozen foods and paper goods to our Ligonier Valley Meals on Wheels family.

We are humbled by the fact that following a personal disaster, they chose to share so much with our community.

Thank you.
