Three of our chapter members had a fun afternoon last Sunday at the SW/NW District Meeting. We came away from the meeting with useful info, creative ideas, and wonderful conversation. We were also lucky to have the company of our State Regent at the meeting!

At our quarterly Book Club meeting we discussed 1776 by David McCullough. Our group really enjoyed this book and the author's style of writing. Next up is Founding Mothers by Cokie Roberts!

Mother Nature may have rebelled this past weekend, but that didn’t stop the Ligonier Valley from celebrating America’s 250th anniversary.

Ligonier 250 Celebration🇺🇸

Members of our chapter, along with a C.A.R. member and HODAR, were honored to read the names of the veterans buried in the Old Ligonier Cemetery during the ceremony rededicating the flagpole, which was originally dedicated in 1976.

Trying to quickly beat out Mother Nature who really tried to crash the party (see last photo!), we gathered at Town Hall for the National Anthem and an official proclamation, then gathered in the basement of Town Hall for music, activities, and signing the Declaration of Independence with ink and quill. There was also a ringing of the bells in the Ligonier Valley!

Even though the event had to be changed a bit because of weather, it was a wonderful afternoon and we loved being a part of the celebration!

Our chapter celebrated America's 250th birthday yesterday at one of our chapter member's homes (huge thanks for her wonderful hospitality). We had a fantastic afternoon eating, chatting, and playing an America trivia game!

We hope you are enjoying this huge milestone holiday with family and friends and celebrating BIG! Our Patriots deserve the party!

Very exciting to have Ligonier be part of this amazing journey!

Fort Ligonier is honored to partner with the National Flag Foundation and host the only Westmoreland County Flag Raising Ceremony in the closing chapter of a single American flag's year-long journey around the world and across the United States in celebration of America's 250th anniversary.

Fort Ligonier invites the public to join us on Thursday, July 2, 2026, from 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM. Attendees are asked to arrive by 8:45 AM to allow time to walk to the Upper Fort. There is a moderate incline. A golf cart will be available.

After visiting military cemeteries overseas, all fifty states, and U.S. territories, the flag will make thirteen stops with flag raising ceremonies in the Pittsburgh region before traveling to Washington, D.C., to fly over the U.S. Capitol July 4th.

Fort Ligonier played a pivotal role in shaping a young George Washington that prepared him to lead the Continental Army and the birth of our nation. Fort Ligonier's historical interpreters portraying members of the Virginia Regiment will participate in the flag raising ceremony.

The Flag's final full chapter unfolds over thirteen community gatherings across the Pittsburgh region, July 1–4, 2026, before the American Legion carries it from National Flag Foundation Headquarters to Washington, D.C. for the nation's 250th.
