The tropical system in deep south Texas may have justtttt enough kick to push a heavy tropical rain band into portions of Fayette, Bastrop, Lee, and Caldwell counties late this morning or early this afternoon.

If it holds together a quick 1-2" of rain and gusty winds will be possible. The rest of us will remain mostly dry and toastier today.

🌧️Rain is here, flooding is happening, and we need you to hear us loud and clear:

🚫 DO NOT drive though high water. Ever.
6 inches of water can stall your car. 12 inches can carry it away. Floodwater doesn’t care!

🔄 Turn Around, Don’t Drown.
Find another route. Call someone. Wait it out. Do anything except drive into high water.

Your life is worth more than getting to your location.

⚠️FLOOD THREAT DEVELOPING LATE SUNDAY THROUGH AT LEAST TUESDAY IN CENTRAL TEXAS

The flood threat I alerted you to last week is coming together generally as expected.

🔹Rich tropical moisture pooling in from the Gulf (around the tropical disturbance which is still unlikely to organize into a named storm)

🔹A slow-moving or stalling cold front approaching tonight from north Texas

🔹Extra lift moving into south/central Texas from that tropical disturbance itself

All combined, slow-moving & torrential rain will develop and move through at times between late this evening through at least Monday, but there will be a flood risk that extends into Tuesday and beyond.

Rain totals will range widely; it all depends on where those torrential downpours set up. 1-2" is a safe bet for most of us, but isolated totals over 6" are likely in a few spots. All of Central Texas is under a FLOOD WATCH from Sunday evening through TUESDAY EVENING as a result.

I will be in studio dark and early tomorrow morning with updates. There will likely already be some flooding ongoing before you are up and at 'em on Monday, so make sure you have wireless emergency alerts enabled on your phone and you have your volume turned up before you hit the hay tonight.
