The Lee County Steer Slam and Dud Morris Memorial, which was held over the weekend at the Lee County Sheriff's Posse Arena in Giddings, Texas was an amazing day of bulldogging for the young steer wrestlers of the Ote Berry's Junior Steer Wrestling World Championship Tour! Down to every detail, the Matthijetz and Morris families produced a great event of fun, fair competition that paid amazing and had some very cool unexpected twists.
South Dakota's Treyvan Talsma won the average and $4,134. Louisiana's Ryder Martin was the top points-getter, and took home $4,700. There was $12,000 added to the 18-and-under open, and another $2,500 added to the 16-and-under incentive, no stock charge and a $26,000 total payout. Eleven young steer wrestlers won over $1,000.
Cyndi Bauerle, who's the widow of NFR steer wrestler Leon Bauerle, grandma to past OBJSWWC Tour champ and 2024 Resistol Steer Wrestling Rookie of the Year Tyler Bauerle, did a random drawing after each round and awarded $1,000 cash in "getting down the road money" to lucky winners Sawyer Bell, Barrett Shelton and Ryan Thompson. There is no bigger bulldogging fan than Cyndi Bauerle.
Every kid who finished one out of the money in the rounds was awarded a $100 gift certificate by Hanover Quarter Horses.
We cannot thank the Matthijetz and Morris families, the sponsors and their entire crew enough for pulling out all the stops to make this such a special event for these young cowboys.
THANK YOU!!
Ote & Kendra
