This year, our Homes of Hope team was blessed with a few rare moments we don’t often get to experience. As the “middlemen” of our Back 2 School program, we usually don’t get to see the joy on a child’s face when they open their new outfit or backpack. But this year was different — and unforgettable.
One teen quietly looked through her clothing items, whispering, “I like this… This is cool… This will fit me perfectly.” When she reached her shoe box, she saw the brand and gasped, “This is what I asked for!” Opening the box, she lit up. “These are the ones I wanted, and they are my size!”
An 8‑year‑old pulled each item from her backpack with pure excitement, calling out “Look!” every time she found something new. When she discovered her headphones, she put them on immediately — and wore them out the door. As her family drove away, she rolled down the window, headphones on, and shouted, “Later!”
Moments like these remind us why this program matters. Every backpack, outfit, and supplies given tells a foster child: You are seen, heard, and valued.
Thank you to everyone who donated school supplies, clothing, or volunteered your time shopping, sorting, or delivering. You made these moments possible.
