After all the rain this summer, it’s a great reminder of why dams like the one that forms Delaware Lake are so important. Built in 1951 to help prevent flooding, the Delaware Dam has protected the area for decades.

Without it, places down stream, such as The Ohio State University campus would have faced devastating flooding many times over the years. Behind that protection are dedicated Dam Keepers from the USACE, including our own Kara Blomgren, who spend countless sleepless nights managing flow to help prevent hundreds of millions of dollars in downstream damage.

Great to see Kara featured recently in the Columbus Dispatch. Keep up the good work!

📍Meet: At the gazebo in front of the Army Corps office. Join a Ranger and Volunteer-led family-friendly tour!
🥾Start with a short hike to the base of the dam, head up top for the views, then descend 95 steps into the depths to see the inner workings. Requirements: Able to hike ~½ mile with elevation changes and handle those 95 steps. Closed-toe shoes highly recommended.

Meet at the gazebo in front of the Army Corps office.
Join a Ranger and Volunteer led family friendly tour of Delaware Dam. The tour will begin with a short hike to the outside base of the dam, then proceed up to the top of the dam. It will then descend 95 steps into the depths of the dam to experience its inner workings. Participants must be able to hike approximately 1/2 mile with elevation changes and to walk down and back up 95 steps. Closed toe shoes are highly recommended.

🎣 What an incredible weekend on Alum Creek! 🎣
Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Laken Memories Family & Friends Fishing Tournament! We set a new record with 17 boats on the water, our biggest turnout yet!
The fishing was great, the weather cooperated, and the raffle was an absolute hit with some fantastic prizes and even better energy.
We’re already looking forward to next year!

🎣 Monster bass alert!
Don't need a boat to catch big fish! Aiden crushed it this week right off the Delaware Lake Dam in Ohio. He hooked this giant right on the other side of the spillway. The fish are definitely biting! He caught a bunch of crappy as well.

🏃‍♂️Just Another Dam Race - Done! We had Just Another Dam Race today at Alum Creek and Mother Nature decided to turn the whole thing into a slip-n-slide! 🌧️It was a bit rainy, but you crazy runners still showed up in massive numbers like true dam warriors. Nothing says “fun morning” like soaked shoes, dripping ponytails, and puddles in places puddles shouldn’t be. You all crushed it with big smiles and even bigger legs (strong ones, obviously). Huge thanks to every soggy participant who embraced the chaos! And a massive shoutout to our fantastic sponsors who helped keep this dam show on the road:

🎥Trail Cam Update from Alum Creek State Park! Hey everyone! A few months ago we relocated our trail cam at Alum Creek State Park and unfortunately ran into some technical issues that caused us to lose a ton of footage. But good news, we were able to salvage some great clips from March and April! Check out this video compilation of what the camera caught during those spring weeks. Lots of beautiful wildlife and peaceful park moments that made the recovery worth it!

The 5th Annual Just Another Dam Race is happening in just two weeks at Alum Creek State Park! Saturday, May 23, 2026

🏃5K Run/Walk: 8:00 AM
Run (or walk) scenic wooded trails and right across the top of Alum Creek Dam! Every finisher gets a sweet medal, and it’s the perfect way to show some love for our local lakes and dams. Bring the whole crew, friends, family, neighbors for a fun morning outdoors. Pre-race packet pickup available at Columbus Running Company in Westerville on May 21-22, or on-site starting at 7:00 AM.
