🌿 A beautiful way to close out Lebanon Valley Clean Water Week. 💧

We gathered at Coleman Memorial Park for an afternoon of good food, live music, and connection. Taking a little time to slow down and enjoy the peacefulness of nature right here in our community.

🎶 We enjoyed a wonderful performance by Windfall, a cello and acoustic guitar duo sharing beautiful folk tunes, while connecting with neighbors, partners, and fellow clean water advocates.

We also had the opportunity to learn more about Coleman Memorial Park’s plans for a Level II Arboretum and what’s in the works to further steward and celebrate this special landscape.

One of the things this week has reminded us is just how fortunate we are to have incredible natural spaces like Coleman Memorial Park right here in Lebanon County. These places give us room to gather, explore, learn, and connect, as well as the opportunity to care for these lands and waterways together. 💙

Thank you to everyone who joined us, supported our partners and events, and helped make the FIRST Lebanon Valley Clean Water Week such a meaningful celebration of clean water and community.

🌿 Clean Water Day at Governor Dick! 💧

We wrapped up the final day of Lebanon Valley Clean Water Week with a wonderful morning at Clarence Schock Memorial Park at Governor Dick Environmental Education Center, hosted in partnership with the Chiques Creek Watershed Alliance.

We learned how agricultural best management practices can help protect clean water and support more sustainable landscapes, then headed out on a paw paw hike to learn about this unique native fruit. 🌱

There was plenty for our youngest clean water advocates, too — from story time and watercolor painting to learning about the water cycle and how streams in our communities flow into larger waterways.

From our farms and forests to our creeks and rivers, water connects us all. 💙

💧 Understanding our waterways starts with understanding their story.

As part of Lebanon Valley Clean Water Week, we joined Spring Hill Partners and the Lebanon County Conservation District along Conewago Creek to learn about legacy sediment and the future floodplain wetland restoration project at this site.

We explored how legacy sediment and past land-use practices have shaped our waterways and how restoring floodplains and wetlands can improve water quality and restore natural functions. 🌿

It was a unique blend of history and science, set within one of Lebanon County’s beautiful state game lands.

We’re grateful to Spring Hill Partners and the Lebanon County Conservation District for sharing their knowledge and helping our community better understand the restoration work happening right here in the Lebanon Valley.

🌧️💧 Rain Barrels & Clean Water

We had a beautiful evening at Swatara Water Trail Park learning how small changes at home can make a difference for clean water!

During this Lebanon Valley Clean Water Week workshop, Penn State Master Watershed Steward and Swatara Watershed Association President Bethany Canner shared how stormwater can impact our waterways and what homeowners can do to help reduce stormwater runoff and pollutants.

One simple solution? Rain barrels! We learned how to build, install, and maintain our own rain barrels, with kits and barrels available for purchase to take the next step at home.

Tomorrow!

Join LCCD and Spring Hill Partners for a drop-in event on Thursday, September 17th from 4-6pm to learn more about a planned 20-acre floodplain restoration project along Conewago Creek, located within Pennsylvania State Game Lands 145.

The project provides an opportunity to see how restoring floodplain connectivity, improving stream function, and enhancing natural habitats can benefit both water quality and the broader watershed.

🛶 Snapshots from the Swattie! 🌊

A few snapshots from our Lebanon Valley Clean Water Week kickoff paddle on the Swatara Water Trail

Hosted by Swatara Watershed Association and Cocoa Kayaks, the paddle was a great way to get out on the water, learn about the history of the Swatara and the importance of clean water and healthy watersheds.

🌿 A Walk Through the Quittie’s History 🌿

Yesterday, members of our board and community gathered at Quittie Creek Nature Park for a nature walk hosted by the Quittapahilla Watershed Association for Lebanon Valley Clean Water Week.

As we explored the park, we took a walk through the history of the Quittapahilla Creek hearing stories of the people and changes that have shaped the Quittie and the surrounding landscape over the years.

It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with our community, learn more about the history of this important local watershed, and appreciate the natural spaces that continue to connect us to the Quittie today.

What a great way to kick off the first Lebanon Valley Clean Water Week! 💧🌱

Thank you to everyone who came out to Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area to support our native plant sale in collaboration with LandStudies It was a wonderful success, and we’re so grateful to everyone who helped make it possible.
