I spent today lecturing to the Illini Kitten Club about caring for and feeding neonatal kittens. This is the second year of our club, which is made up of pre-vet and veterinary students. Most veterinary programs do not teach students about neonatal medicine, so these lectures are so important to educate our future veterinarians! We had a great turnout of 26 students, many of whom have signed up to be fosters. Since we have so many bottle babies in our care right now (24!), they got to experience all different ages, learned how to bottle feed, and tube feed.
Thank you to our amazing vet students/board members, Kaila and Becca, and our founding vet tech Rachel for helping out at our learning stations and organizing the day. I am so proud of how hard everyone is working to make IKC a success!

The past few weeks have been very busy with a lot of neonatal kittens coming in from the vet school. We currently have 20 neonatal kittens being bottle fed around the clock. This second wave of bottle babies usually begins in August and extends into November. We are tired!
We are going through a lot of KMR milk replacer and would love donations. You can donate KMR via our chewy link:

Banana Split (pictured above) is our 5 week old cleft lip baby. He has been doing so well and is slowly learning how to eat some canned food with my help. He is a silly boy with lots of energy and reminds me of a little werewolf!
