Black August is a tribute to those who made sacrifices to promote the cause for freedom, justice, and self-determination. Each generation benefits from those before it, and Black Art, Culture, & Education is committed to doing our part to build a thriving, sustainable commUNITY.

Protecting and preserving culture means investing in the people and organizations that make places and create spaces for art, history, and education. This is why your participation in this year's Annual African American Culture & Arts Festival is so important. Every year our festival brings together artists, performers, entrepreneurs, nonprofits, community organizations, chefs, educators, youth, and families to celebrate the diversity of Black culture and to create important economic possibilities for our community.

Today, Black Art, Culture, & Education (Black Men Wellbeing Retreat) welcomed fathers, sons, brothers, and mentors into a private and courageous space dedicated to the well-being of Black men.

Led by Dr. Marcus Jones, Licensed Professional Therapist, with contributions from Mr. Ali Ross - participants engaged in honest conversations about the realities Black men face every day. Together they explored healthy coping strategies, navigating unfamiliar spaces, expressing emotions in healthy ways, communicating needs, building trust, and creating lives rooted in wellness rather than survival.

This gathering reminded us that when Black men have spaces where they are seen, heard, valued, and supported, they can heal… and families grow stronger, children flourish, and entire communities benefit.

We are deeply grateful to every father, son, brother, and community member who chose vulnerability, wisdom, and collective care today. Thank you to Dr. Marcus Jones and Mr. Ali Ross for creating a space grounded in compassion, dignity, and healing.

This is only the beginning.

May we continue to stand in solidarity and support one another in our ongoing fight for freedom.

The BACE Summer STEAM Program blends science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics with history and culture, Spanish language learning, civic education, financial literacy, social-emotional learning, and creative expression.

Ages: 5 to 17
Schedule: Monday through Friday
Hours: 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM
Location: 3560 Panthersville Rd., Decatur, GA 30034
