Government-set rents. Government-run grocery stores. One government payer deciding your care and how long you wait for it.

That's the pitch, and right now it's winning arguments in cities and primaries across the country. It gets sold as fairness.

But look at what actually brings prices down. Rents fall when builders are allowed to build. Grocery bills fall when stores have to compete for your business. Care gets better and cheaper when doctors compete for patients. Most of what's expensive today got that way because government got in the way.

The pledge is simple: speak up when government control gets sold as compassion, learn the argument well enough to make it to a neighbor in your own words, and hold your elected officials accountable for what they endorse.

Nobody voted for the rule that raised your costs.

That's not a figure of speech. State agencies write regulations that raise prices, bury small businesses in compliance, and reshape whole industries — and most of them take effect without a single vote in Carson City. If a lawmaker passes a bad law, you can vote them out. When an agency issues a bad rule, you have almost no recourse.

The REINS Act draws a simple line: if a regulation carries a major fiscal impact, elected representatives have to approve it before it takes effect. Not a ban on rules. Just a vote on the expensive ones.

Twelve states already do this. Nevada doesn't.

The founders didn't just leave us documents. They left us an example — ordinary people who showed up at town meetings, wrote to their neighbors, and argued hard about what kind of country this should be.

Nobody's asking us to declare independence. But as America approaches 250, the question stands: what do we owe the people who come next?

A country they're still free to shape — and the belief that shaping it is their job too.

That starts smaller than you'd think. Talking through the Declaration with your kid. Showing up to a school board meeting. Calling a lawmaker. Helping a neighbor fix something on your street.

None of it feels historic. That's usually how history gets made.

We have a duty to preserve and strengthen the principles that make self-government possible and pass them to those who come next. What does that duty actually require?

Reality: growth happens when people find better ways to meet real needs. A new grocery store in an underserved neighborhood. Better tools that let a carpenter build more in less time. Competition that turns yesterday's luxury into today's household staple.

Prosperity isn't taken from someone else. It's created by serving others.

Many people think prosperity for some means higher costs for everyone else. But economic growth expands opportunity instead of taking it away.

We sat down with Senator Lori Rogich and Senator Edgar Flores for a deep dive on portable benefits — and the room was full.

Here's the problem in plain terms: benefits in this country are still tied to a single employer. That works fine if you have one job. It doesn't work for the rideshare driver, the freelance designer, the contractor picking up work across three platforms. Those workers are building real careers and getting told they have to choose between flexibility and security.
