A medical license is not a doctor providing care to your family.

After a fantastic celebration, we have to continue to work to enrich healthcare for New Mexican patients.

Please help educate your neighbors, friends, family, and lawmakers: the number of medical licenses in New Mexico is not the same as the number of physicians actually practicing in New Mexico.

We all know the struggle to find healthcare here. We all know the struggle to get specialty care.

New Mexico needs policies that recruit and retain physicians. We need to stand against special interests and policies that will drive even more physicians away.

Please help us spread the word.

The Doña Ana County Medical Society extends our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Sheeba Tauhid-Imran, our Gala Chair and Event Director, whose vision, leadership, and dedication were instrumental in bringing the DACMS Inaugural Gala to life.💛

Dr. Tauhid-Imran is a board-certified internal medicine physician and hospitalist, Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine at Three Crosses Regional Hospital, and co-owner of Laser 360 MD Med Spa & Skin Care. In addition to her work caring for patients and educating future physicians, she dedicated countless hours to helping transform the vision for our inaugural gala into a beautiful evening celebrating the physicians, students, residents, community advocates, and leaders who strengthen health care throughout Doña Ana County. 🏥

From the earliest stages of planning through the evening of the gala, her creativity, attention to detail, and commitment helped make this milestone for our Medical Society possible. 💫

💛 DACMS 2026 Community Advocate Award: Patients Primero💛

At the Doña Ana County Medical Society’s Inaugural Gala on August 29, members of the Medical Society were proud to recognize Patients Primero with the Community Advocate Award.

We were honored to recognize Patients Primero cofounders Joanne Turnbull and Kathe Stark for their dedication to patient advocacy and their commitment to ensuring that patients have a voice in the health care decisions that impact them and their communities.

Their work exemplifies the importance of bringing patients, physicians, and community members together to advocate for accessible, patient-centered health care throughout New Mexico.

🏆 Legacy Lifetime Service Award 🏆

A lifetime in medicine leaves an impact not only through the patients cared for, but through the physicians inspired along the way.

At the Doña Ana County Medical Society’s Inaugural Gala on August 29, we had the privilege of honoring Dr. Marco A. Duarte with the Legacy Lifetime Service Award.

Throughout his career as an OB/GYN in Southern New Mexico, Dr. Duarte dedicated himself to caring for women and families throughout our community. Today, that commitment to service continues through medical education at the Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he helps educate and mentor the next generation of physicians.

His career represents a remarkable continuum of service, from caring for generations of patients and families to strengthening the medical community and now sharing his knowledge with future physicians, truly embodying the theme of our inaugural gala, Local Roots, Lasting Impact

We are proud to celebrate Dr. Marco A. Duarte and a legacy that continues through the patients, families, students, and physicians whose lives he has touched. 🩺💛

🌟 DACMS 2026 Student of The Year: Anamaria Ancheta 🌟

The future of medicine in Southern New Mexico is bright! 🩺✨

During our Inaugural Gala on August 29, the Doña Ana County Medical Society was proud to recognize Anamaria Ancheta as our 2026 Student of the Year.

Anamaria is a fourth-year medical student at the Burrell College School of Osteopathic Medicine and an active student member of the Doña Ana County Medical Society. Throughout her involvement with DACMS, she has worked to bring medical students into conversations surrounding physician advocacy, community engagement, and organized medicine.

Her commitment was especially evident through her tremendous efforts to increase medical student participation in the 2026 New Mexico White Coat Day, helping connect future physicians with practicing physicians and state leaders while encouraging students to become engaged in advocacy for the patients and communities they serve.

Anamaria’s involvement reflects exactly what we hope to see in the next generation of New Mexico physicians: a commitment not only to caring for patients, but also to strengthening the profession and serving the communities they call home.

We are excited to see where medicine takes her next and proud to have her as part of the Doña Ana County Medical Society. 🩺
