The New Mexico Doula Association is honored to have Bianca Zamora the founder of Luminar Health serving as our Board President and helping lead our Association into its next chapter.

We are proud to celebrate Bianca’s many accomplishments in advancing the work of doulas, lactation professionals, community health workers, midwives, and the families and communities they support. Thank you for your leadership and unwavering commitment to equitable, community-centered care.

We’ve noticed some new faces following us lately and want to take a moment to introduce the team behind the mission! 👋

First up is our incredible Founder & CEO, Bianca. 🎉

As a lifelong New Mexican and the proud daughter of a Mexican immigrant mother and first-generation college graduate father, she saw firsthand how where you live can determine your access to healthcare.

Bianca has spent over 13 years focusing her career on advancing health equity and eliminating barriers to care. Throughout her journey, she realized that a lack of healthcare in rural communities wasn't because the care didn't exist, but because the systems to connect people to it were fragmented, difficult to navigate, or simply unavailable.

She created Luminar Health to bridge those gaps by building a supportive infrastructure for Community Health Workers, Doulas, Lactation Providers, and other trusted professionals so they can focus on serving families while being sustainably reimbursed for their vital work.

Bianca holds a B.A. from UNM, an MPH from NMSU, and is currently pursuing her DrPH at San Diego State University. Above all, she is a dedicated mother working toward a healthier, more equitable future for all families.

The recent rain in Las Cruces has been a beautiful reminder that growth happens when we’re nurtured. 🌧️🌱
Just as the desert blooms after a storm, families flourish when they are surrounded by care, connection, and support. Whether it’s a listening ear, a helping hand, or compassionate guidance through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum, no family is meant to do it alone.
Here's to the rain, the growth it brings, and the community that helps families thrive. 💛

Every family deserves care that is safe, affirming, and rooted in dignity.

This Pride Month, we celebrate LGBTQIA+ families, doulas, birthworkers, and community caregivers who continue to create more inclusive and supportive spaces in birth and postpartum care.

Reproductive justice includes trans and q***r families. Inclusive care is essential care.

Happy Pride Month from the New Mexico Doula Association 🌈

Maternal mental health is community health.

Perinatal mood disorders do not happen in isolation—and healing shouldn’t happen in isolation either. Stress, lack of support, racism, financial strain, barriers to care, and overwhelming expectations all impact maternal mental health.

Full-spectrum doulas help hold emotional, physical, and informational support throughout pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and beyond. Compassionate care can make a difference.

This Maternal Mental Health Awareness Month, we work toward a future where asking for help is normalized, support is accessible, and families are cared for with dignity and understanding.

You deserve support. Your mental health matters.

Support during and after pregnancy can help families create thriving futures. ♥️

In New Mexico, expanded Medicaid coverage for doula care is helping more families access advocacy, emotional support and postpartum care during some of life’s biggest moments.

More families now have someone in their corner before, during and after birth.
