Foothills Riding Club is organized to promote equestrian interests for all horse lovers, including dressage and combined training, through sponsorship of educational and recreational activities. Located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mtns., the Foothills Riding Club is organized for the purpose of promoting understanding and enjoyment of equestrian activities, particularly dressage and combined training, through sponsorship of educational and recreational activities such as presentations, clinics, schooling shows, and other mounted programs. To further these goals, the FRC provides the following to the equestrian community:
- Monthly meetings spring and fall with informative and entertaining guest lecturers on topics such as innovations in equine veterinary treatment, farm maintenance, safety equipment, competitions, etc.
- Monthly newsletter
- Web site containing informative articles, news, calendar of area horse activities
- Annual Schooling Combined Test
- Annual Schooling Horse Trials
- Dressage Schooling Show Series
- Occasional clinic: most recently Linda Hoover & Sport Horse Versatility

Proceeds from these activities are donated to local area organizations such as FENCE, Foothills Humane Society, Thermal Belt Outreach, PEER, TROT, Red Cross, Polk County Rescue, and others.

🌲 Wild times at the FENCE house on Thursday evening! 🦉✨

We kicked off an amazing night by breaking out the art supplies! 🎨🐎 We drew some of our favorite animal encounters from out on the trails and tacked them up on a giant trail picture—and while some of our art belonged in a museum, let's just say others had 10/10 effort! 😂

After showing off our artistic talents, we got to learn so much from Amy McGrath & Tashi Brewster of Champions for Wildlife! 🐾 Huge thanks to them for shedding light on the incredible wildlife we might spot during our trail rides in Polk County—from deer, squirrels, and box turtles to bobcats, snakes, bears, and coyotes! 🦌🐿️🐢🐻🐺

Here are two HUGE takeaways every trail rider should know:
🌾 Found a solo fawn in tall grass? Don't panic! 🛑 Baby fawns have very little scent, but mama does! She steps away on purpose so predators won't find her baby. The fawn is safe and mama is nearby!
🐢 Spotted a box turtle? Leave them be unless strictly necessary! They live in very small home ranges, and moving them can make them lose their way home forever. 🏡

They also shared emergency contact info for wildlife in need of rescue 🚨. Champions for Wildlife is doing incredible work and is always looking for passionate volunteers and donations! 💚 Be sure to check them out at the link below to get involved! 👇

Who would have guessed July-level heat (plus a surprise electrical storm!) would follow us straight into September?! 🥵⛈️

We are blown away by the incredible resilience of our community:
🌟 150 horse-and-rider pairs who showed up, powered through the extreme weather, and displayed top-tier grit and sportsmanship.
🌟 Our unstoppable volunteers who kept everything running smoothly behind the scenes.
🌟 The amazing fans who stayed in the stands and cheered everyone on through it all!

You all showed unbelievable fortitude, and you are the exact reason we do this. Everyone at FRC is beyond proud of this community! 🏆👏
