Music, memory, and a sense of home.

Igor Stravinsky spent much of his life far from the country where he was born. World War I and the Russian Revolution prevented his return to Russia; after years in Switzerland and France, he eventually made a new home in the United States.

His Petrushka draws vividly on the folk music of his homeland: a musical world of familiar tunes, bustling crowds, and festival traditions.

As the Lancaster Symphony Orchestra brings this music to life in Festivals & Folklore, we’re pleased to welcome Church World Service Lancaster to highlight its work in our community.

🎨 Tonight’s the night! We’re excited to celebrate Lancaster’s young artists at the art auction the Ware Center!

Each year, children and youth ages 3–18 donate their artwork to be auctioned in support of local nonprofits, including and , turning their creativity into meaningful community impact.

Lancaster’s own will be onsite with ice cream at the Art Show. Local artist, poet, and performer will be drawing and gifting Essence Portraits throughout the evening,

We are so grateful to the young artists, families, organizers, and everyone who shows up to make Lancaster a more welcoming and caring community.

Today, many of our neighbors are losing access to health care.

Beginning October 1, many refugees, asylees and other lawfully present immigrants without green cards are losing Medicaid coverage. For some families, this comes after already losing access to SNAP food assistance.

At CWS Lancaster, we’re working alongside impacted families and community partners to help our neighbors understand these changes and find available resources. We've already seen a big increase in visits to our Global Food Pantry over the past two months -- and we anticipate these changes will only increase food and economic insecurity.

Election day is quickly approaching! For many new American citizens, this may be their first time navigating the U.S. voting process. Join us Tuesday, October 13 for an in-person, nonpartisan training for faith partners, volunteers, and community supporters who want to help eligible voters feel informed, prepared, and confident participating in our democracy.

We’ll be joined by Ariana Ontiveros, Civic Engagement Advisor with who brings decades of experience organizing alongside immigrant and New American communities across the country.

Earlier this year, two children represented by CWS Lancaster were granted asylum after years of advocacy and legal support. These victories don't happen by chance. They happen because experienced attorneys stand beside children every step of the way.

We have made a promise to the children and families we serve: that they will not have to navigate the immigration system alone. We intend to keep that promise.

Thanks to a generous donor, right now every gift made to our Legal Services Program will be matched dollar for dollar, up to $200,000. Your generosity will help keep experienced attorneys and accredited representatives on staff and ensure that vulnerable immigrants, refugees, asylum seekers, and
unaccompanied children continue to receive expert legal representation.
