In July of this year, we gathered in City Council Chambers to demand a stronger ordinance be put in place in order to regulate data centers. Though the current data center ordinance significantly cut down the amount of available parcels for potential data centers from 179 to 16, we know there are still improvements to be made. Since the ordinance went into effect, our data center team has been working closely with Councilors Amos Stoltzfus and Marshall Miller on amendments to the current ordinance.

On Monday October 5th, Council is inviting our community to provide input on ways to strengthen the city’s ordinance. We have an opportunity to come together as a community with Council to make changes to the ordinance and implement strong regulations.

This is an opportunity to build upon the current ordinance together and have real community input on the amendments we want to see implemented to protect our city from data center developers.

This Saturday afternoon, community members gathered to ask questions of our Lancaster Stands Up endorsed candidates LSU candidates town hall!

State House candidates Jess Branas of the 97th legislative district, Brad Chambers of the 41st legislative district, and incumbent Nikki Rivera of the 96th legislative district answered LSU and audience submitted questions about the issues that impact YOU as Lancaster county residents.

Candidates discussed housing, data centers, energy usage, healthcare, taxes, education and more. They shared their visions for the future of the district and the actions they are currently taking to move the needle towards a more equitable future for the county’s districts.

Conversations like these ones encourage continued co-governance between LSU and our future elected officials and allow community members to ask the hard questions of our leaders about the changes that impact day to day life in Lancaster!

Remember to register to vote (PA’s voter registration deadline is October 19th!) to be ready for election day!

In April, the Supreme Court gutted Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act. Louisiana v. Callais told Black communities across this country that the maps drawn to silence us don't need much justification anymore, and that the burden of proving our own political power just got heavier.

Knocking on doors is the most effective tool we have to elect endorsed candidates who will co-govern with us and look out for working peoples’ interests. Candidates like Brad Chambers, who’s running to be the Representative for PA’s 41st district. He isn’t accepting a dime from corporations, and will fight for affordable housing and against the data centers that want to drain our communities. That’s why our Lancaster Field Organizers are launching canvasses every Wednesday until Election Day- come join us!

Recently, we’ve seen positive changes in the way our elected leaders are acting and talking about homelessness, and it’s because of the pressure we’ve been building to put an end to homeless sweeps and the criminalization of our neighbors.
