Period Y'all

Period Y'all Fighting period poverty in Appalachia and Kentucky since 2022. Join us in the fight for menstrual equity!

At Period Y’all, we are dedicated to fighting period poverty in Kentucky’s Appalachian region and beyond. Founded by Skylar Davis, our organization was inspired by the incredible menstrual equity work being done by Change Today, Change Tomorrow and Jilly Pads in Louisville, KY. Recognizing the need for similar efforts in her hometown of Lancaster, KY, Skylar set out to address a critical issue: 1

in 4 menstruators struggle to afford period products, and this number is even higher in Kentucky. What began as a monthly pop-up distributing free menstrual products at the Garrard County Food Pantry has evolved into a multifaceted initiative:

- Stock the Schools: Delivering essential period products to over 200 schools across Kentucky’s Appalachian region.
- Advocacy and Education: Empowering communities to raise awareness and advocate for menstrual equity legislation.
- Community Outreach: Partnering with local organizations to ensure no one in our region faces period poverty. At Period Y’all, we envision a world where menstruators have equitable access to the products and support they need to live with dignity. Together, we’re breaking the stigma and building a future where no one has to choose between food and basic hygiene.

🌸 MAY RECAP 🌸
Menstrual Health Awareness Month kept us BUSY, and we wouldn't have it any other way.

Here's what Period Y'all was up to:
🎨 Collabing with students
• EKU DES Type II students presented their final projects, all created for Period Y'all! We were blown away by the creativity. More than anything the students really made us feel seen and loved.
• CELTS at Berea College hosted a packing party funded by the American Humanist Association. We packed 1000 packs! A Period Y'all record!

💜 Working with communities
• We tabled at the Green Festival in Springfield, KY. Community members helped decorate our Period Y'all Pantry.
• Hosted 4 pop-up distribution events.
• Sent out 1 major shipment of products to our Period Y'all Pantry.

📦 Impact by the numbers
✨ 19,146 period products distributed in Period Poverty Awareness Week alone!
May total: 20,106 products!

📣 Advocacy in action
• Received a proclamation from Governor Andy Beshear recognizing Period Poverty Awareness Week.

From classrooms to community events to product distribution, May was all about showing up, building connections, and expanding access across Kentucky.

Thank you to every volunteer, student, partner, donor, and supporter who helped make it happen. Y'all rock.

Y’all, Kentucky’s women deserve better.

The latest data paints a hard picture:
- Kentucky earned a D on its Menstrual Health Report Card.
- 50% of counties are maternity healthcare deserts.
- Kentucky ranks 6th highest in maternal mortality.
- 89% of maternal deaths were found to be preventable.

These aren't just statistics.
They're our neighbors.
They're our daughters.
They're our students.
They're our communities.

And while these numbers tell a story about healthcare access, they also connect directly to period poverty, mental health, education, and opportunity across our Commonwealth.

Research shows that when students don't have access to period products, they're more likely to experience stress, anxiety, emotional distress, and miss valuable classroom time. Access to period products improves attendance, participation, and overall well-being.

That's why Period Y'all has been advocating in Frankfort and working across Kentucky since 2022 to make period products more accessible through our programs, partnerships, and community initiatives.

Because periods aren't just a health issue.
They're an education issue.
They're an economic issue.

We believe every Kentuckian deserves access to the care, resources, and support they need to thrive. And honey, we're not stopping until they get it.
