Winter is coming. Make sure you’re ready for it.

NRSAW brings together the people, knowledge, and conversations that help us better understand the snowpack, avalanche conditions, and the decisions we make in the backcountry. Come for the expert speakers and valuable takeaways. Stay for the good company, cool swag & raffle, and the chance to catch up with old friends and make a few new ones.

The Great Fish Community Challenge is officially over.

Thank you feels like an understatement. We’re blown away by the support you showed us.

We know the emails. The social posts. The reminders. The “please donate” messages. It’s a lot. And yet, you showed up for us. THANK YOU ❄️

Thank you for donating, sharing, and cheering us on. We’re incredibly grateful to have this community behind us as we head into another winter.

Now, back to our regularly scheduled programming: NRSAW, forecasts, education, and all things snow and avalanche safety.

This is it, folks. The Great Fish Community Challenge wraps up today at 5 p.m. ✨

We’re pretty grateful to be part of something this big, and even more grateful for everyone who has supported us along the way. Every donation helps us head into winter ready to keep providing forecasting, education and resources to our community.

Before the first flake falls, the Flathead Avalanche team is already at work.

Behind every forecast, every class/workshop/event, and every email answered, there's a crew making it all possible. Our forecasters who track the patterns so you can plan and make informed decisions with confidence. Our educators who turn complex science into something every student and community member can understand. Our admin team who keep everything moving behind the scenes — the details no one sees, but everyone depends on.

They're not chasing recognition. They're just showing up, day after day, storm after storm, because this work matters to them.

This Great Fish Community Challenge, we're asking you to help invest in the people who make our mission possible — so they can keep doing what they do best.

In 2026, we taught snow and avalanche awareness to over 700 kids from 18 schools across the valley. A lot of these kids won't grow up to ski the backcountry or ride sleds into avalanche terrain — but they are growing up in Montana, surrounded by mountains and snow every single winter.

That means understanding snow isn't just for backcountry travelers. It's a basic piece of knowledge for anyone living here — how snowpack forms, why avalanches happen, and how to respect the terrain around them, even if they never leave the highway pullout.

Did your kid come home this year talking about snow science? We'd love to hear about it!

Help us keep introducing kids across the valley to the mountains they live in. Give to Friends of the Flathead Avalanche Center during the Great Fish Community Challenge before September 11th and help us reach even more classrooms next year.
