Who came to your mind?

The friend who's been carrying more than she's telling anyone.

The woman who needs to be reminded that God hasn't forgotten her.

The one who keeps saying, “Maybe next year.”

Maybe this is the year you don't just tell her about Thrive.

What do you do when you’ve done everything you know to do, and the outcome is still beyond your control?

In Part 2 of our Stronger Leadership Podcast conversation, Deanna and Judi continue talking about "Leading When You Don’t Know How It’s Going to Turn Out."

Because uncertainty doesn’t mean we stop leading. We still pray, plan, prepare, seek wisdom, show and and do the work. But eventually, every leader reaches the boundary between our responsibility and God’s responsibility.

In Part 2, we talk about:

• Why leaders should not isolate when they’re uncertain
• Why major decisions shouldn’t be made at the peak of emotion
• How to keep doing ordinary things well when one problem is consuming your attention
• Why wise leaders measure trends, not moments
• How to define success before you know the outcome
• The difference between trusting God and becoming passive
• How to recognize what is, and is not, ours to control

One of the most freeing truths we discuss is this...obedience is our responsibility. Outcomes ultimately belong to God.

I can prepare, but I cannot control everyone’s response.

I can invite, but I cannot make people participate.

I can develop people, but I cannot make them stay.

I can lead with integrity, but I cannot control what everyone thinks about me.

There is tremendous freedom in knowing where our responsibility ends.

If you’re carrying the weight of an outcome you cannot control, we especially hope you’ll listen to this one.

Come after pouring into everybody else.

For three days, let somebody else lead the worship. Let somebody else bring the Word. Let somebody pray for YOU. Sit with your friends. Laugh. Rest. Worship. Receive.

You spend so much of your life pouring out. Thrive is a place to be poured into.

Ministry will teach you a lot about loving people. ❤️

You give the counsel. They do the opposite.

You warn about the red flags. They move forward anyway.

You encourage, pray, pour in, show up, and sometimes watch people make choices you know will eventually leave them picking up pieces.

And then the phone rings.

“Can you help me?”

And you do.

Because ministry isn't just preaching sermons, leading worship, casting vision, or planning great events.

A whole lot of ministry is simply this:

Love them. Lead them. Tell them the truth. Keep your heart clean. And do it all over again.

“Therefore, since through God's mercy we have this ministry, we do not lose heart.” — 2 Corinthians 4:1
