Lakeland Choral Society Inc.

Lakeland Choral Society is a registered non-profit organization dedicated to awarding music scholarships to vocal students.

LCS is an 70+ member community choir that endeavors to raise funds for our ambitious scholarship programs to support students seeking to further their study in vocal music. Our organization endeavors to give back to the community through our shared love of song, and to inspire a new generation of musicians to appreciate great works of choral literature. Music is a powerfully emotive tool capable of creating community where isolation existed. Among the aspirations of the Lakeland Choral Society is that of bridging the distance between the cities and towns of Polk County so that together they may resonate with the timeless harmonies of great choral music.

This week, a few of us attended the Polk Arts & Cultural Alliance gala.

The choral society was honored to be nominated as organization of the year. Our very own Shing Woodall-Palagano received volunteer of the year! Congratulations to Shing and all of the other winners and nominees!

It is a great privilege to make music with such wonderful people. Making an impact in our community through music, scholarships, and charitable donations is what we are all about. We hope to continue that legacy for decades to come. Thank you to our incredible members for being a part of something bigger than yourselves and serving your community, one note at a time.

Towards the end of last season, the board voted unanimously in favor of purchasing an AED to donate to Florida Southern College and have it installed in the ensemble hallway.

Prior to this installation, the nearest defibrillator was in the Branscomb lobby, and was often behind several locked doors during rehearsals. Now not only choral society members, but FSC staff and students, All County staff and students, and any other folks that need it will have access to this life-saving device. While we hope no one ever has to use it, knowing it’s there provides an immeasurable peace of mind.

Thank you to the board, Nate Hettinger, and Shing Palagano for bringing this gift to life. Thank you to Florida Southern for installing and maintaining this device to provide security for years to come.
