What a rewarding morning on beautiful Lake Jackson! Mason G. Smoak Foundation board members and participants from the Youth Leadership Highlands program served as buddy paddlers for consumers from Ridge Area Arc, helping them enjoy a memorable canoe adventure on the water.

A special thank you to Removing the Barriers Initiative for bringing your beautiful canoes and helping make the morning so much fun for everyone involved!

We are also grateful to Chick-fil-A Sebring for a delicious breakfast, AdventHealth Sebring for water and bananas, and Duke Energy for sunscreen and backpacks. Your generosity helped make this experience extra special! Thanks to Zach from for volunteering with our paddlers!

Youth Leadership Highlands Class XV has officially graduated!

Our students proudly showcased the leadership skills they have developed throughout the year by leading the graduation ceremony themselves. YLH Class XV, along with our YLH Junior and Senior Ambassadors, served in a variety of important roles throughout the evening and represented the future of leadership in Highlands County so well.

During the ceremony, the YLH Junior Ambassadors shared about the local nonprofits they nominated for the John F. & Susan H. Smoak Award of Excellence and had the honor of presenting this year’s award to Hope Ministry Children and Family Outreach.

Congratulations to all of our graduates, ambassadors, award nominees, and community partners who help make this program such a meaningful experience each year!

Excited to award Mason G. Smoak Foundation Memorial scholarships to two students with outstanding character this week! Jonathan Nava at Avon Park High School on Monday and Hermione Hunter-Lindsay at Sebring High School on Wednesday.

Youth Leadership Highlands Class XV has completed their year with a wonderful day serving The Who I Am Foundation today! A few members of Classes XIII and XIV showed up to help too! Preparing collection boxes for pajamas for their foster care bags brought out their creativity and teamwork!

Today, members of our community came to support our Mason G. Smoak Foundation Youth Leadership Highlands Ambassadors by participating in mock interviews.

These experiences are designed to prepare our future leaders with the confidence and skills they’ll need as they step into their next chapter of their lives.

A heartfelt thank you to our volunteers for investing your time and expertise to serve as interviewers: Dawn Ritter, Highlands County Natural Resources; Jonathan Harrison, Highlands County Road and Bridge; Tiffany Dale, Duke Energy; Tahlia Warrick, Archbold; and Scott Durban, Agero.
