I’m enjoying this course on A.I. a lot!

The theme for tonight’s Goal Achievers meeting was “11th Hour” and the Word of the Day was “Broadcast.”

Since the meeting tonight had the specialty agenda “3 Paired Speeches,” we had three speeches. “Paired Speeches” are when each speaker talks on the same topic. For tonight, that topic was

Binge Watching your favorite movie, documentary or TV series

❶ A Favorite Vintage TV Show

Marilyn enjoyed “The Twilight Zone” because it was so unique and had such a wonderful diversity of shows, touching on all sorts of human situations in ways that censors wouldn’t stop them. Rod Serling was so committed to the series that he wrote many of them. The episodes can be found on the internet and watched—in B&W, of course.

❷ The One Where I Binge-Watched “Friends”

Eric enjoyed “Friends” while attending school in China and his teacher recommended watching this show to learn more about Americans and to help with English. Taking that to heart, he has watched the entire series, with Chandler, Joey, Monica, Rachel, Ross, and Phoebe at least five times. The benefits, besides passing his speaking English course include a lot of laughter and good feelings.

❸ The Truth about Killing Robots

Gilberto gave a glimpse of various movies that center on robots. He then provided Isaac Asimov’s Three Laws of Robotics. With that as background, he shared several current examples of what robots are beginning to do in our world, and the impact on humans. Robots allow for automation, which is helpful for humans, but there are offsetting costs, too. As the world evolves, the boundaries between humans and robots is blurring: we have much to think about and learn.

Table Topics was run by Thanh, with rapid-fire questions that brought a diverse range of information and experiences including, Lonesome Dove, using AI for Good, the evolution of mankind, comedy sitcoms (used for mollifying different human conditions), tips for binging alone or with others!

During the meeting, the chat received a couple of leads:

❶ The Truth about Killer Robots
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5715832/

❷ The Journey of Man: A Genetic Odyssey (2003)
Based on a book from 2002. The author is the main narrator in the documentary.

Next week, Goal Achievers will not be meeting, in honor of Memorial Day.

Our meeting after that, June 1st, will be a regular meeting agenda, but no less interesting. We hope to see you then.

Although this is admittedly very short notice, Goal Achievers Toastmasters International Club has a unique treat tomorrow night (Monday; April 18, 2026 @ 7-8:15 pm Pacific Daylight Savings Time) at our Zoom meeting. The agenda is one of the club’s specialty meetings:

3-Paired Speeches

A grammatically intriguing title, this type of meeting has three speakers who will deliver their takes on a common topic. Tomorrow's topic is:

Binge Watching - three speeches on your favorite movie, documentary or TV series

If you’ve ever wanted to hear three views of the same topic, tomorrow’s Goal Achievers meeting is perfect. Even better, the three speakers come from distinctly different backgrounds, countries, cultures, and professions. It will be an entertaining hour.

If you’re interested in attending (your curiosity has at least been tickled, right?), then please contact us for the Zoom access information at:

Hope to see you there.

The theme for tonight’s Goal Achievers meeting was “Artificial Intelligence,” and the Word of the Day was Learning.

We had two speeches. This highlighted Toastmasters’ flexibility because one was prepared and one was a pocket-speech—that is, the speaker stepped up to the mic and gave a speech they have or are working on.

❶ Depends Upon Your POV

Bill gave a targeted view into Toastmasters’ meeting agendas, with a focus on how signing up for roles helps, or not, the marketing of each meeting. Tedious tracking of mundane processes can yield valuable insight that allows one to craft effective steps to make changes, improvements, and actions to move toward whatever the beneficial goal is.

❷ My Faith Journey

Jim is working on a speech for an upcoming event that covers his faith journey. He stepped forward with his “pocket speech” and shared with us his background, key locations, people, and events. At the end, he tied it into Toastmasters, comparing how a public speaking journey can be quite similar.

Table Topics was run by Eric, who had penetrating questions about AI and how it can be used, not only right now but also into the future. Based on the impromptu speeches answering questions about how people are using it, use in hospitals, meetings on the topic, which features are strongest/weakest, and how to prepare the younger generations for the evolution of AI, in one way or another, everybody is using and/or is impacted by AI.

Next week will be one of Goal Achievers’ specialty meetings:

“3 Paired Speeches”

The title is grammatically incorrect since this agenda has a common theme, and three speakers talk on that topic—but, without knowing what each person is going to exactly be saying.

If you’re interested in the unveiling of different points of view in real time, next week’s meeting is the place for you. If you would like to attend, please contact us at:

Hope to see you next week!

BTW, regarding Goal Achievers and their public meeting calendar, for those of you who plan far ahead, here are the meeting types for August 2026—and feel free to check out our calendar all the way through June 2027!

The theme for tonight’s Goal Achievers meeting was “May the 4th Be with You!” and the Word of the Day was “Scrupulous.”

Our Open House’s “One Word Ice Breaker” was run by Thanh, who asked everyone to provide one word that describes their special power. Clearly, the audience is an awesome force:

Adventure, Curiosity, Peace, Inspiring, Analytical, Connections, Value, Symphony, Learning, Knickerbocker, Patience.

We had two speeches specifically related to public speaking, Toastmasters, and success:

❶ The Invisible Box

Our special guest speaker, Lucy Chen, gave a lively speech on the many challenges that she has met and how they relate to speaking. For example, publishing a book in English (not her native tongue) and earning a black belt in Taekwondo. She was enthusiastic and had a wonderful message: goals can always be met!

❷ The Value of Toastmasters

Karrie shared her journey with public speaking, and how she had to simply decide that she needed to be up on the stage—and she did!

Table Topics was run by Bill, with many questions about Yoda, the Jedi, the Force, and how they might relate to public speaking. For example, would it phase you if you confidently walked to the center of the stage, gazed out at the audience, and saw The Emperor and Darth Vader in the first row?

For all of our public speaking efforts, remember the wise words of Yoda:

“Do, or do not. There is no try.”

Next week will be one of our regular meetings. Looking forward to seeing you there.
