Governor Newsom has proposed to withhold Prop 98 funds from public schools, something that violates our state constitution.

David Alvarez is the co-chair of the education finance subcommittee. He supports the governor's proposal and has expressed interest in having Prop 98 public school funds go to private preschools.

Call Alvarez and tell him to fully fund public schools. Private schools should not receive public funds.

Not only did more news sources publish stories about the Grand Jury's condemnation of the GUHSD Governing Board, but the California School Board Association has shared the story and findings with every one of its members. That's every school board trustee in California.

KPBS news story: "Grand Jury School Board based mental health provider mental health provider vote on anti-LGBTQ+ falsehoods" June 5, 2026

In July 2023, the GUHSD Governing Board Trustees Kelly, Woods, and Shield voted to end the contract with San Diego Youth Services, an organization that GUHSD had previously worked with for more than twenty years. Why? Because one person, a personal friend of board members, Anthony Carnavale, and Cajon Valley School Board member, misrepresented the services offered by SDYS. The Grand Jury has found the three trustees to have endangered students in their decision making by leaving them without su***de prevention services and mental health interventions for four months. The decision to cut services via SDYS was capricious and driven by their own personal agendas.

GUHSD needs Trustees who prioritize students over their personal politics. "East County Values" is a dog whistle for homophobia.

Grossmont Educators support all students. Period.

GEA's very own Pete Mergens addressed the La Mesa Foothills Democratic Club audience this week and earned their endorsement as did JeneƩ Littrell and Steve Mull.

Pete has promised to show up. Jim Kelly missed several board meetings when he visited Germany, Niagra Falls, and other places last school year. We need a Board member who will prioritize GUHSD.
