Yesterday, LaBelle Fire Department had the honor of presenting the Hero Award to Lazaro Alonso-Lara.

Laz noticed something wasn’t right and quickly brought it to the attention of the teaching staff at LaBelle High School. A stove had accidentally been turned on with items left on top, causing them to begin catching fire. Because Laz “saw something and said something,” teachers were able to turn the stove off before the situation became hazardous.

His quick thinking and willingness to speak up helped prevent what could have become a serious incident. Great job, Laz, and thank you for stepping up and saving the day! 🚒❤️🔥🧯

The LaBelle Fire Department was proud to host Braxton College for 3 days of vehicle extrication training. Our firefighters spent countless hours sharpening their skills, learning new techniques, and working through realistic rescue scenarios to better serve our community when seconds matter most.

Continuing education and hands-on training are critical in the fire service. Every training opportunity helps ensure our crews are prepared, confident, and ready to respond safely and effectively to emergencies of all kinds.

A huge thank you to Tim’s Towing and the Hendry County Recreation Board for your support and for helping make this training possible. We truly appreciate it. 🚒
